In fact, all I know how to say is "Voules-vous danser" - sound familiar? I have always liked the whimsical songs Carly adds to her albums, such as "Interview", "Hotcakes", "De Bat",etc. I think it gives a wonderful insight into her personality as well as her sense of humor. On LNS, I think the winner in the humourous category goes to "The Reason" ("he's gonna spank me - with his shirt off") "Film Noir" didn't have a funny bone in its body. I really hope she has gotten that era "out of her system" now. The one Carly song that I truly can't tolerate is "In Pain" from "Come Upstairs". That song gives me an instant headache. I love almost everything else though. I wish I had as few blemishes in my career as she has in hers! take care, Tom P.S. I don't know if Carly and Carole King are friends. If they aren't, they should be. I'd love to hear a duet with the two of them. > ---------- > From: g sotoares[SMTP:gsotoares@chru-lille.fr] > Sent: Thursday, October 08, 1998 11:06 AM > To: Carly Simon Email list. > Subject: Interview > > Hello!! > I'd like to thanks Tom for the site of print interviews. Is the "My Romance" video worth getting? Also, to those of you that have copies of the videos from MTV, Did you copy them yourself, or did you get them somewhere else. I would love to see them. I think the only Carly song-video I have ever seen is "Give Me All Night" - Tom > ---------- > From: MP123A321@aol.com[SMTP:MP123A321@aol.com] > Sent: Thursday, October 08, 1998 3:29 AM > To: hotcakes@smoe.org > Subject: Re: Carly video > > Hello all: > > In a message dated 10/8/98: > > << : Does exist a videotape of Carly Simon clips ? >> > > I've yet to find anyone with Carly video clips. I've downloaded them, so they are MOV-files. The one is Mockingbird with Carly and James on stage and the other is Touched By The Sun. And she can write poems with sad, deep and funny lyrics same time. One of my faves: "Sorry that your mother dropped you on your head Maybe her mother dropped her too In the end we all get dropped We all get black and blue." And this: "So don't mind if I fall apart There's more room in a broken heart." Maybe that's why on every album is at least one a bit odd and surbrising song. It's obvious that she likes to try different styles too, like reggae in Floundering and rock'n roll in Pure Sinn. I think that trying unusual and odd things in a art is a sign of a very creative person. Floundering is one of my faves, but Mockingbird has never touched me as music (but Carly's and James' performing is of course great). And Cow Town... humm... I think it's sometimes too "cowish" to me. Hannele ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Oct 1998 13:05:47 -0600 From: "Manning, Thomas (Tom)" Subject: carly duets and backups.... Hi everyone, The latest round of e-mails got me thinking (something rare these days!) about other artists records that Carly has appeared on. Has anyone listened to Andreas Vollenweider's "Private Fires" song? Carly does the vocals on this song and I really love the combination of the two. I guess he returned the favor with "Davy" on LNS. Are there any other gems out there I am missing? Tom ------------------------------ End of hotcakes-digest V1 #47 *****************************
