What is your favourite Carly song and why? What was going on for you when you first heard it? catman - -- CARLY SIMON DISCUSSION LIST http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk/ethericcats/index.html TANTRA’S/ETHERIC PERSIANS AND HIMALAYANS http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 21:13:46 EDT From: Denisongs@aol.com Subject: Re: Fave Carly Songs In a message dated 98-08-29 20:26:47 EDT, you write: << What is your favourite Carly song and why? I have had little sleep, and my mind is a fog, and I don't remember the title right now, but it starts like this: Won't you give me all your limes And I will give you a reason I'll rub them on my body And smell like the West Indies..... And on it goes. The thing that struck me about it was her use of her sexuality. I, at the time, was a young adolescent woman, and sexuality was not talked about. Not in a grown up way. Carly gave me a window into playful, adult sexuality. She showed an alternative to the narrow constrictive view of sex that I was brought up with. She showed me some healthy mischief. She has a number of songs like this. My two cents..........Denise ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Aug 98 01:21:07 GMT From: kg@ibm.net (Kenny Grant) Subject: Re: Fave Carly Songs Hi Colin, My first post to your list had to come sooner or later... Mine is Legend In Your Own Mind. Why, hmm, that's a tough one, I guess the lyrics just get to me, they hit home in a Joni-like way. I see it as a song of lost hope -- "this isn't exactly what you had planned" -- not that my life is or ever has been so terrible, but it's never been idyllic paradise either :-) Great "mood music," it just puts me in a slightly melancholic frame of mind, but the good kind, 'ya know? Guess I was about 20 when I first heard it, in college getting an education w/o any idea what I wanted to be "when I grew up" (funny how some things haven't changed!) doing lots of partying, clubbing, and too much "going home alone" -- so it struck a nerve. I also love her voice on LIYOM, at times very strong ("'lonely boy' when he goes home alone"), at times just a whisper ("no one woman loving you can ever feel that she's been 'really touched'"). Also love her guitar work -- has a folkloric Spanish twist I think... -Kenny On 8/29/98 8:22PM, catman wrote: What is your favourite Carly song and why? And one of my personal favourites. Yes it is 'adult'. The line'giving you all my sighs' has more than one meaning. I remeber th fuss made in some parts about the cover to this album. My own mother thought she was a slut! The feminists also gave her a hard time about the lyric to Slave, another fave off this album. However, no matter how well adjusted we are I am sure we can all idenify with the feelings expressed in this song! 'burning with a fever only you can cool'. Wow. The titile track from BITT has this wonderful lines: 'last night I slept in sheets the colour of fire tonight I lie alone again and curse my own desire' The cover to this album is sexy and elegant and has a mystical air to it. catman Denisongs@aol.com wrote: > In a message dated 98-08-29 20:26:47 EDT, you write: > > << What is your favourite Carly song and why?
