It really encapsulates my feelings at times with my partner. The whole song is beautiful and sad and hopeful. The use of the sax really lends itself to the strength of feeling in this song. The sax, for me, sounds like the heart. Carly uses the sax often to great effect. To know that one is not alone in experiencing feelings brings such joy and it is is necessary for all of us to know that none of the feelings we have are unique-someone, somewhere feels them too. Of course we cannot expereince another's feelings directly no matter how we long to get inside someone. Hence 'i wish you were an ocean so i could jump into you'. Our feelings are all we have and ultimately all we can share with another is the expression of those feelings-we cannot share the experience of our inner world with anyone. Our inner world is all that we can experience directly-and the one thing we must do alone. We can however journey thru these experiences with another side by side and encourage and hold one another even tho we cannot truly feel anothers feelings. This is what the song means to me. Just Like You Do is a wonderful song from a vastly underrated album, in my opinion. catman ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Aug 1998 20:25:27 +0100 From: catman Subject: Just Like You Do if you think you're alone that you're the only one who is afraid let me tell you i feel just like you do and sometimes i stand back from desires and dreams i don't understand they overwhelm me i feel just like you do ...... and when it comes to love you want me to be the one to say the words: i love you but i fell just like you do but lets try to return to that brave innocence we once knew i wish you were an ocean so i could jump into you That last line just does me in. I am beginning to think maybe I should have called this list Letters Never Sent! You may write what you like to the list. When writing to the list address you mail to hotcakes@smoe.org . I will resend a letter you wouldn't have received as you have just joined. This will give you an idea of what it is all about. Topics do not have to strictly be about Carly but obviously our love of carly is what brings us to this list. best wishes catman - -- CARLY SIMON DISCUSSION LIST http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk/ethericcats/index.html TANTRA’S/ETHERIC PERSIANS AND HIMALAYANS http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Aug 1998 00:14:19 +0200 From: "Peter Holmstedt" Subject: Plug Of The Week #33 Hi there, Vacation's over for this year and summer's rapidly fading..... Time to get to work again: I'd like to let you all know about a CD that's been spinning a LOT in my CD player this summer: PF Sloan - Still On The Eve Of Destruction (All The Best 311) This record is full of new songs by the man who wrote "Eve Of Destruction" and "Secret Agent Man" (both appears here in new versions, as well as 8 new, original songs.) The backing is done by members of both The Posies and Fresh Young Fellows. Strong songs and great performance! If you can imagine a Jimmy Webb with a twist or an older, wiser Matthew Sweet, I'm sure you can imagine what it sounds like! If you're having trouble finding this gem at your local record store, please contact All The Best Records at: All The Best 20 Clubside Drive Woodmere NY11598 U.S.A. email: ALLTHEBEST@aol.com They'd be glad to help you out! Take care for now, Peter ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Aug 1998 01:23:30 -0300 From: "Renata Cristina Bastos de Paiva" Subject: HAPPY HI, I'M VERY HAPPY TO BE JOINED TO THE LIST!
