I am just about over the flu. So what Carly lyric is one of your favourites? What does it mean for you? Do you remember where you were and what was happening for you when you first heard it? Share The End here come the priests each one wailing and bemoaning lordy, they got their heads bowed down here come the madmen they're too excited for atoning burn the mosque they're shouting burn it down save me a place surround me with friendly faces all of us have gathered here to share the end to watch the world go up in flames please, lord, we're not ready give us a day give us an hour here come the kings let's dispense with their apologizing just bring on the acrobats and clowns here comes the rumble hang on for universal dying please ignore the baying of the hounds save me a place.... please lord we're not ready give us some time to work things out please lord we're not ready give us a day give us an hour... This is one of my favourite songs from carly. I especially like the way she howls on the backing. It is a dramatic song and still appropriate in todays climate, if not more so. It was written in 71 and the world seems a more dangerous and ludicrous place today. catman - -- Living is the process whereby we create the structures we call meaning. http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk Carly Simon Discussion List http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk/ethericcats/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Jul 1998 13:40:03 EDT From: Denisongs@aol.com Subject: Re: Favourite Lryics I don't think this is favorite, but it has been on my mind lately: De bat he rat got wings All the children know that But what I need to know from de lord Is how to get de wings on de cat! At the time of it's release, 78, it was quite unusual and Carly got some flak here because some arsehole reviewer thought she was being racist! I also think Floundering, from Hello Big Man (83) is funny. The lyric is very apt for many people, including, myself at some time in the past. It makes me laugh. colin Denisongs@aol.com wrote: > I don't think this is favorite, but it has been on my mind lately: > > De bat he rat got wings > All the children know that > But what I need to know from de lord > Is how to get de wings on de cat! > > I had a bat in my house. When you recieve a mail from this list i.e. from hotcakes@smoe.org and you wish to reply to it to the list then it must be addressed to the list. Your mail, like this one, should have at top from:catman@ethericcats.demon.co.uk and TO: hotcakes@smoe.org. To reply to list, adress it to hotcakes@smoe.org. This is the onmly way everyone on the list will read your reply and therefore be involved. This how the list generates mail. if we confine our replies to only the person who wrote the mail then the list will die. catman - -- Living is the process whereby we create the structures we call meaning. http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk Carly Simon Discussion List http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk/ethericcats/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Jul 1998 22:41:56 EDT From: Denisongs@aol.com Subject: Re: Favourite Lryics Thanks Shawn. Denise : ) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Jul 1998 00:04:04 EDT From: Denisongs@aol.com Subject: oops Hi All, Well, I feel like a great big ditz! You have gotten me thinking of Carly, so I dug through my old albums to see what I have and guess what....I have Hotcakes! I have had it for over twenty years!! I will play it and be reminded. When I got it, I was at the beginning of my Joni Mitchell infatuation. I was so emersed in her music, and so totally in love with her work that there was no room for anyone else. I was a loyal teenager . I was a Joni Mitchell snob. No one (in my opinion) was even in her league as a songwriter, so I dismissed people too easily. My best girl friend at the time was a huge Carly fan. This is what I have: Hotcakes A pink record just called "Carly Simon" Boys in the trees (a favorite) Anticipation Another Passenger Torch Hello big Man No Secrets Playing Possom (a favorite) Come upstairs I do not remember many of the songs. I am going to have a Carly fest for myself this week and get reintroduced to her. There is a lot that I do remember and love, but I have not been consistent in my response to her music in the past. I love her sense of melody and her voice. I also liked her. She seems like a wonderful (and very normal) human. She seems like someone you could have over for a slumber party with the girls. A friend of mine met her through Sally. She said she was very nice. She also said she is very into astrology. It is late and I am starting to lose it. Off to sleep. Thanks for reading this. Bye.....Denise : ) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Jul 1998 13:44:52 +0930 From: Drew Subject: Re: oops Denise, you are only missing the following Carly albums to make your collection complete: The Best Of SPY Spoiled Girl Coming Around Again Greatest Hits Live My Romance Have You Seen Me Lately?
