I have about 75% of her early albums. I am a crossover from the Joni list as i can see a few others are also. I haven't heard any of her recent material although my wife enjoyed the song at the end of the recently released Madeline movie. Does anyone know if this soundtrack or single is available? I have not yet had the opportunity to see Carly live as is the same story with Joni. Looking forward to learning more and contributing some to the new list.I agree with Colin about the personal attack rules. Both list I subscribe to are large and there are some very passionate people expressing their views. I have lots of questions and I'm looking for some songs and video that I know exist and have been unsuccessful finding them. I am especially wanting "My New Boyfriend" on video. Also audio of "Why" extended version from promo 12". Hope trading won't be taboo on here. E-mail me privately if anyone thinks this will be a problem. Congrats again to Colin, thanks for starting the list up. Take care, Maurice ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 13:34:33 +0100 From: catman Subject: Re:Hello MP123A321@aol.com wrote: > Hello, > I have been a Carly listener for about 20 years. Here in the UK there is very little info about Carly and one can only get her regular cd's. Letters Never Sent is her last self penned album from 1994 I think it is one of the best she has done, but to be honest I think that about every new album she has done! Although, much to my disappointment, I was not that keen on Film Noir, an album of film songs she did last year with Jimmy Webb. catman > Congrats again to Colin, thanks for starting the list up. > > Take care, > Maurice - -- Living is the process whereby we create the structures we call meaning. http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk Carly Simon Discussion List http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk/ethericcats/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 13:54:09 +0100 From: catman Subject: Carly Info Hi all, I started this list because I am a long time fan of Carly Simon. However, I am not an expert on her at all. The only article I have ever read about Carly is the one from 1980 Rolling Stone, where she is on the cover with her twpo children and it say: LIFE WITHOUT JAMES. Here in the UK people only know here for her movie soundtrack hits, Nobody Does It Better, Coming Around Again and Why. I think that is unfortunate. Speaking of Why, I have always been embarrassed by it and couldn't think why Carly had agreed to do such a song. Recently I saw a video of her singing it-it completely changed my mind about the song. In the video she is so obviously haveing fun and making fun of the song. It is all done tongue in cheek. I have never seen the film that the song is from, perhaps within that context it is also meant to be amusing. My favourite carly songs usually don't get charted or even released as singles. Tho since I have been on the net, I have found out that she has charted frequently in the USA. I have come to understand that at one time Carly and James were huge in the USA. In a way, knowing so little about her has made her more of an enigma to me. Now since being on the net, I have learned more and much of the mystery has gone and she has become human to me like the rest of us. far from that taking the sparkle away, it has made her work even more special to me-cos I know it has been written and sung by a woman, a real person, just like myself and you. her gift is truly wondeful and I am so glad she shares it with us. The fact that she is just an ordinary person, like the rest of us, makes this even more special. catman - -- Living is the process whereby we create the structures we call meaning. http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk Carly Simon Discussion List http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk/ethericcats/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 08:02:36 -0600 From: "Manning, Thomas (Tom)" Subject: My Favorite Album Hi Everyone, Someone asked me recently the old "Desert Island" question regarding my Carly Simon collection - which CD would you take with you if you could only take one. This was a tough one, but I think my all-time favorite would have to be HOTCAKES. She seemed genuinely happy, the writing was very strong and of course, her voice was perfect. I have never tried to like an album as much as "Film Noir", but after listening to it over and over it still hasn't captured me. "Evry time we say goodbye" is wonderful but that seems to be the only song that I really care to listen to. Just my two cents worth..... At least it is when I sing along to it. It is also a sexy song. Although I hate to hear covers of carly, I think it ould be great to see and hear a drag artist singing Older Sister. Forever, My Love is also wonderful I think Carly writes the best love songs I have heard. Waiting At The Gate from HYSML is another one. > > > I have never tried to like an album as much as "Film Noir", but > after listening to it over and over it still hasn't captured me. > "Evry time we say goodbye" is wonderful but that seems to be > the only song that I really care to listen to. Same here. i felt almost guilty for not likeing it. uusually when i buy an album i haven'ty yet heard, I have to listen to four times before it grows on me. This album I listened to much more than that and it didn't stick. I eagerly await her new work. One versian I was told is that the album is called Stark and is a stripped down work-ie to just guitar and normal instruments. the other versian is that her new album is a concept album regarding the lives of 12 women, with each song being about one woman. I guess we will have to wait and see. Or hope that she does both! catman - -- Living is the process whereby we create the structures we call meaning. http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk Carly Simon Discussion List http://www.ethericcats.demon.co.uk/ethericcats/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 21:08:32 +0100 From: catman Subject: Re: hello Beverly wrote: > > I think if I was somewhere and carly smiled at me I'd wet myself. > > Now *that* would be funny.
