I continue to think those are among her strongest songs -- "Forgiveness," "My Lord Did Trouble Me," and "Why Is Your Heaven So Small?" standing out especially. Among her older songs, she offered a moving version of "Barbed-Wire Boys," her song about the farmers among whom she grew up in Iowa. So many of them are dealing with the Mississippi River floods right now, I think she felt that as she sang and we all knew it as we listened. Susan was accompanied by her long-time bass player Greg Holt, and the stunning percussionist / vocalist / blues harmonica player Trina Hamlin. They will be playing with Susan at the XPN Festival and I can't urge you strongly enough to hear them. Trina Hamlin is an extraordinary musician. She played a lot of harmonica last night. She's worked up an extended harmonica part for Susan's song "Time Between Trains" that suits it so well I almost can't imagine the song without it now. And Susan sang back-up for Trina Hamlin on one of Trina's songs, "Living On Love"." =========== He and others are looking forward to your playing again in Philly at the XPN festival. If you make it to the members area for the meet and greet, he should be there too. Be gentle, Pieter ------------------------------ End of hollow-digest V10 #16 ****************************
