It was submitted by jtd7 on 04-08-2008 ============================================================================= =========================== ........One show I heard this spring that i enjoyed very much was Trina Hamlin at WCL in Feb. She's a singer-songwriter, originally from Minnesota, total musician (guitar, piano, percussion, harmonica, sometimes all at once), and a voice that can soar divinely and then descend to a bluesy growl. And she has a natural sense of humor, and a disarming stage presence. I enjoyed it a lot.Jaap wrote:Stay Local, Buy Local. I have always enjoyed listening and going to the Locals. For the Super Group Maybe The Last Reunion Until The Tax Man says Go Again Laddies Tour Tickets, one can go to how many better music shows. The best forty minutes of music I have heard live or taped was at a Local show, and I can still hear every gosh darn note of the show as it plays in my mind. I am done. Showtime! JaapTrina Hamlin is part of a local chain. When we moved to the Philly area in the early 90s, one of the first shows I heard was Saffire the Uppity Blues Women, at what was then the 23 East Cabaret (not so far from Milkboy). I had become a fan of theirs through WFDU radio in North Jersey. Opening for them that night was Susan Werner. We thought she was a marvelous songwriter, and we may have heard her live more times than any other performer. Last year we heard her three times, and each time she was supported by Trina Hamlin. I leapt at the chance to hear Trina Hamlin solo, and she did not disappoint. And the chain continues: opening for Trina Hamlin was the Bob Beach Trio, a local blues band who were also wonderful. Now I look forward to hearing them and whoever they bring with them. ============================================================================= =========================== Just a reminder, this forum is not used by those living in Philly, but is also attended by those west to Harrisburg and south to Delaware and D.C., as well as those like I who live outside the over-the-air listening area of WXPN. I am sending this second version, and last, to correct, edit, and make it somewhat more readable. If this update fails, and confusion rules, just write me if you wish and I will reply. Oh, for want of a preview, the intent of the missive was lost. Ms. Hamlin, I really do apologies. My error and my rue. jtd7, you know where I "live", I wait for the knock.
