I came down to Sin-e to hear someone else, probably Leslie Nuchow, and Trina was on either before or after her. At that time Trina was playing with a band and I remember listening to the band hand off lines and play with each other. Those of you who came later, too bad. I spoke with Trina after the show and signed her mailing list and asked about upcoming performances. She had, I think, 4 gigs in the next week and I was so hooked that I made it to each one. How's that for devoted? (Or is it insane?) Luba ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Jan 1999 01:18:38 EST From: YoMARILYN@aol.com Subject: my first Let's see.. the first time i saw Trina... I woke up that morning, well.. it was more like 2 in the afternoon, stumbled out of bed and had my regular breakfast.... a colt 45 and a bag of red jellybeans. I went to check my mailbox, but it was empty with the exception of a couple of bills and a chain letter, so i decided to go back to bed. later that evening i remember stubbing my toe on the way to my car and thinking what a horrible world this was when you dont own a pair of shoes... Needless to say, I cried the whole way to the local pub. after drowning my sorrows in 4 or 5 whiskey sours... (okay, it was more like 9) and wasting all my quarters listening to Patsy Cline sing "Crazy" on the jukebox, (One More Time!!! woo hoo!!!!!) i decided it was time to go... well, actually, the pub owner decided it was time that i go... When i got to my car, I realized that i had locked my keys and my dog inside and had no way of getting them out... so i stumbled down the street...pennyless, shoeless and spotless (my dog) contemplating ending it all... WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN! i heard this angelic voice coming out of some little hole in the wall the locals called Sine! (pronounced "shin - ay".. not "sinny") so I made my way into the club and it was PACKED! I mean, there were at least 12 - 15 people in there! I made my way through the freakish looking crowd and there she was.. a fresh faced Trina Hamilton singing her little Minnesotian heart out... Her pure voice and unspoiled aura made me realize that life was worth living!!! (okay, actually it was the freakish crowd...they boosted my self esteem)... Regardless, that night i felt a miraculous transformation take place...the next day i got the job i always wanted, won the lottery, grew 2 inches and and my teeth magically straightened. and I owe it all to her! TRINA HAMLIN... THANK YOU! Wherever you are!!!! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Jan 1999 01:34:27 -0500 (EST) From: Linus Gelber Subject: Re: my first On Sun, 10 Jan 1999 YoMARILYN@aol.com wrote: > Her pure voice and unspoiled aura made me realize that life was worth > living!!! Cool! When do I get my two inches? My first time--have I told this story here yet? I think I have. It's brief and unembellished, and basically involves wandering into Sidewalk at the end of a Trina set, there early to catch whoever was playing next. The first impression was worrisome: Sidewalk, girl, microphone, harmonica. Uh-oh. And then "Hollow" exploded into the room, and I was hooked. At some point we met and I convinced her not to call the cops ("Honest, I was just appreciating the music"). That first night my friend Larry the ex-opera-singer was there with some friends, and he too was mightily impressed. "What an instrument," he said (opera singers are always saying that).
