Well, 8 when I checked this morning. I'm always curious, you know. I do have a question. Well, two. First, I wonder how your recent Boston gigs with Slide went--I was actually tempted to road up and see you (I love them, and catch them about whenever I can). Unfortunately, with the hectic haze that passes for my life, that was never a serious consideration. The shows with Slide were great. I really enjoy the Plough and Stars. Just a quick word for those who don't know who Slide is (I can put this on the list right? I'm not totally sure about protocol(:) Slide is a Boston based band that ROCKS! I've played a few shows up there with their drummer Ken Schopf....keep your eyes open for him, he's got a great style of playing. Anyway, Slide reminds me of the Rolling Stones meets New Orleans meets....hmm...I don't know....they come through NYC periodically and I think they have a website ...definately worth checking out. I really enjoy sitting in with other bands because then I get to "play" harmonica.(: Other note on Boston...the audiences there are great! There's a different kind of support for music there (Maybe a different amount of choices...who knows) And second, I wanna hear more about People Talking. Are there any tapes out there? There should be...I know for the last few years they have had another name "Ghost Of A God". Been through Europe ect... I may still have some of their music. What was the lineup? Ann Minogue, Mike Deputato, Chris Deputato, Jim...forgot his last name...on keys, a few different drummers (Yeves from M5 included) and different bass players... The first three are the founders. How did it start, and how long did it last? I met Mike and Annie my first year in Boston and started working with them and a Folkish singer named Marty Eisenstein...I wonder what he's up to? Things evolved out of that...Annie wrote most of the material if I remember correctly. She's a great singer! I did backgrounds for them while in Boston...they moved to NYC (I was still in school) then when I moved to NYC I hooked up with them again....People talking was formed about that time ('91I think) What was it like? Hard to describe...Rocked, changed with the styles that were coming in and out. Great musicians. I'll have to get my hands on their stuff for you. Well, this is long winded enough! Hope I answered your questions(: Wow, you took me back in a time warp for a minute Later! Trina > P.S. Anyone have connections with the Bottom Line?...Just checking. I'm still working on it, actually. Not making much headway, but you're my star candidate (along with The Cucumbers, who have played there before in the dawn of time). It's kind of a Mission. Hope you can make it down to our 2-year anniversary show on 12/13 at the Gallery...hmm, I guess this should go off-list. Never mind. I'll email you about it later on. That means I will prob'ly mostly lurk, posting only when the procrastination bug bites me... like now. I'm from Boston, comprise the food half of the food-and-massage deal that is FruCasa (which, btw, will be short-lived, it seems -- ACK!! They're selling the house!! Trina, ifyou want to be fed, better hurry up! ;) January? I'm on vacation then, e-mail me!), and study Italian (mostly film and theatre). I could write more of a bio, but why bore you? This is a music list. Just a quick(ish) hello, - -v P.S. Oh, right. Meant to plug a show I'm thinking of going to, for you all -- speaking of Bottom Line. Dan Bern and Moxy Fruvous are playing there on New Year's Eve, 1/1 and 1/2. Double-billing, each artist gets an hour each night, two concerts a night. Should be fun. E-mail me for more info, or call Bottom Line directly. That's about all the connection I have to it. *smile* Vika Zafrin, vika@ibm.net Mi casa es FruCasa. Come get fed. I guess I'll introduce myself too. I'm Melanie and I'm living in the Boston suburbs now. Got a job transfer from CA to Boston this past spring. So far the music scene keeps me entertained. I saw Trina play for the first time at the Newport Folk Festival. Found out about this list so I thought I would join up. I'll probably be more of a lurker since I don't know much in the way of booking and stuff like that. I just like listening to music in little clubs and such. It's a great way to forget about work :) Melanie ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 22:50:34 -0600 From: Trina Hamlin Subject: [none] Hello! I just wanted to say "Hello" and let you know this list isn't just about booking and that nonsense (I'm sure you know that already) I also need, listen to and use music to move me through this world...I'd hate to see it (and me) without it! Nice to see old and new names popping up. Looking forward to anything ya'll have to bring to the table(: Have a great eve- Trina ------------------------------ End of hollow-digest V1 #4 **************************
