You haven't missed much Rob, this list has been extremely quiet for a long time now - to the point where it's often months at a time before a new digest shows up in my inbox, I almost forget I'm subscribed sometimes! ;) I'm really enjoying Summer of High Hopes, I'd put it somewhere in the middle of the pantheon of Emm albums (better than Girl Versions and Dead Relatives, not quite as good as Public, SF or Asianblue) - my favourite songs so far are the ones she did with Nathan Larson, especially "All-Time Low". I'm still not sold on PVT though - it's definitely jarring to hear such radically different versions of songs I know and and love so much. It's certainly interesting, but to be honest, I don't see myself listening to it too often, I don't think any of the new versions are an improvement on the originals (Public is still my favourite of Emm's albums) - sorry Emm! :) ****************************************** Mike Keast (mikekeast@email.com) > ----- Original Message ----- > From: owner-headline-girl-digest@smoe.org > To: headline-girl-digest@smoe.org > Subject: headline-girl-digest V9 #11 > Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2006 00:15:07 -0400 (EDT) > > Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2006 13:35:00 -0400 > From: "Robert Tittel" > Subject: Re: HOT ONE Shows Cancelled > > Hello everyone -- > > I just re subscribed to HG after a long absence... its been literally years. > Anyway, just wondering who was still on this list and what everyone things > of Summer of High Hopes. > > Rob > > Check Out My UPDATED blog (09/07/06) at www.rootstucky.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2006 20:07:06 -0400 From: "Robert Tittel" Subject: Re: HOT ONE Shows Cancelled Hey Mike - Good to hear from you. I guess over the years the Emm conversation has moved toward the Emmbassy message board and other venues like it. I remember when I used to get 10-12 emails a day from this list (I was always on the loose mail version). I miss those days! I can't believe 2002 was the last time I saw Emm live (Bryn Mawr, PA, a day after seeing Sarah Slean at the same location -- that was one of my best vacations ever!), and likewise, the last time I saw any "Headliners".... good times... At any rate, I agree with you on Summer of High Hopes. I am really enjoying it but it still doesn't top SF or Public or even Asianblue. But the Nathan Larson songs rank among my faves too. Early faves for me are "All Time Low", "Black eyed blue sky", "Sunshine", and "Girls are murder", and of the slower more balladsy songs I'm loving "Sweet Destroyer". I also agree with every assessment you made of PVT. It is "jarring" as you said to hear those songs so radically different. Public was such a great album (one of my top ten all time favorites) that its hard for me to imagine ANY updated version being better than the originals. Anyway, great to hear from a fellow Emm fan and know there is still at least a little life left on the old list. I'm a few years older now than I was when this list was in its hey-day, and not nearly as prone to getting in my car and driving 500 miles to see an Emm show and hanging out with a bunch of strangers (though I would never rule it out if the right bill came along), but it would be nice if we could drum up some interest and some conversation on this list again and see some old names come out. Haven't posted in years. I miss the days of all the list traffic, discussions and music recommendations, meet-ups for concerts, etc. Guess we have all moved on and are doing new things. I actually just moved to Maine yesterday from Indianapolis (from Connecticut from New Jersey--phew!) to do photography full-time. I hope to get up to Toronto or Boston or somewhere sometime soon to catch an Emm show. Unfortunately I haven't had the money to get the new album which sucks because I would've loved to hear PVT... oh well. I'll get it sometime soon. Digging the songs I've heard on myspace, though!
