Songs of Love and Death arrived in my mailbox yesterday, and it is, as are all Emm's albums, beautiful. I've only listened to it all the way through twice and am currently on the third full listen and it continues to grow on me. I love the way Emm twists and turns a song inside out and really makes it hers. In much the same way that she did on Girl Versions, she has made an album full of songs, that unless someone told you they were all covers, you'd never guess they weren't her own. Breathless by the Corrs is virtually unrecognizable if you didn't know those lyrics. Shining Light is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, I love the jangling guitars that kick off Forget Georgia, the pulsating, sexy bass of Dearg Doom, and the sweet simplicity of Moorlaugh Shore, with its beautiful clarinet and quietly strummed guitar. Emm is one supremely talented lass, and her talent continues to grow with each album. I'm once again in awe. I'm thinking a road trip is going to be in order soon. Its been far too long since I've seen a live show, and I'm just guessing here, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to HAVE to see some of these songs live. go buy it now for gods sake.
