I sat down on the floor with my back against the couch, began sipping on a ginger ale, and cocked my head as the video screen came to life. I bought Videochrome because, well, it's our fair Emm and I just reflexively buy anything she does. But anyway, I sat there and watched with my chin on my palms and soon without even realizing it, I was mesmerized. At times I would just shake my head in disbelief as I listened to the amazing feel that Emm has for the crafting of a song. It's quite a trick to make the lines of a song join together wtih seeming effortlessness while at the same time still maintaining a rich depth of feeling. Truly great songs immediately capture us with a clever hook or a nice melody but then allow us to discover nuances and meaning as our minds reflects upon each line. I realized also that I take Emm for granted. I mean she's always there in my CD collection and everything she has ever done is on my iPod, but I still think that my relationship with her music has become too comfortable. One has to admit that one of the most fun things for a music lover is discovering something new different, and most of us have been familiar with Emm's music for quite some time now--we know her and we love her, but sometimes our interests drift elsewhere. Sometime around "Billy Hang On," though, it just struck me again how special Emm's gifts are. Thanks, Emm, we truly don't appreciate you or your music enough. So do yourself a favor and pick it up the next time you see it at a show or order it from her web site. It's really well worth it. Smirky ===== I'm a famous artist.
