If you watch any recording, you'll see that she missed her cue to start and she looked a little startled :) - -----Original Message----- From: owner-headline-girl@smoe.org [mailto:owner-headline-girl@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Kevin Xu Sent: Thursday, February 05, 2004 9:03 PM To: headline-girl@smoe.org Subject: RE: Superbowl Question (no it's not about Janet) A lot of the time when it comes down something of that magnitude, the TV station is nervous that something may go wrong and tend to opt for lip synching. However, sometimes the singing is live over a recorded track. I remember Jewel back several years ago did it live, and I think it was Cher, did it lip synch. - - Kevin - -----Original Message----- From: owner-headline-girl@smoe.org [mailto:owner-headline-girl@smoe.org] On Behalf Of TrishTLC@aol.com Sent: Thursday, February 05, 2004 8:03 PM To: headline-girl@smoe.org Subject: NEC: Superbowl Question (no it's not about Janet) So, I've come to address what most people have overlooked in all this superbowl nonsense, and that's how classy and flawless Beyonce was, with her looks and voice when she sang the national anthem. My question is: was she lip synching? I'd like to believe "no" because I've seen her perform live and she's near perfect with every note. But, my b/f disagrees with me and said it was recorded. Any thoughts? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Feb 2004 12:20:23 -0800 From: Paul Schreiber Subject: TheGate.ca reviews Videochrome http://www.thegate.ca/dvd/videochrome.php Videochrome - Emm Gryner [On DVD] (DDD/Outside) Rated: 7/10 Features: 6.5/10 Review By: W. Andrew Powell Ever since Emm Gryner hit the Canadian music scene with her debut hit "Summerlong", I've been a huge fan, but for a variety of mostly corporate reasons, huge stardom has eluded her. Because of that, it's been almost impossible to find some of the things that come part and parcel with most other artists - like music videos. Well, thanks to a lot of work from Emm, that's finally changed with the release of her new DVD last month, Videochrome (an homage title to her fantastic song "Stereochrome", which sadly doesn't appear anywhere on this DVD) - which features 7 videos, commentaries on each video, and a video segment Emm shot for StarTV, prior to last year's Juno Awards. Included on the DVD are "Hello Aquarius", "Your Sort of Human Being", "Julia", her newest video "Beautiful Things", and then 3 previously unreleased tracks - "Drive", "Billy Hang On", and "Starcraft Camper Blues". My favorite video, mainly just because it's one of my favorite songs and because Emm looks so great, is "Beautiful Things", which has her vamping it up in an elevator as various people go about their day around her. It's pretty funky, and is a must-see for any Emm fan. Otherwise, I loved all of the original videos, but didn't really go nuts for the previously unreleased tracks. I think it also would have been cooler if they could have had footage of Emm performing some of her songs live at a club. All the same, I can't help but love this DVD and every moment that it spends delving into Emm's videos. The special from StarTV is also really fun to watch, and probably is enough of a reason to buy this package, but even though Emm is a tad timid at times, I'd also have to say that the commentary tracks are pretty cool. When all is said and done though, I think it's easy to say that Emm's real fans will need to buy this DVD. It just adds a dimension to her that most indie artists don't have, and simply put, that's just what a video is - another way to adore your favorite artists and their music, set to a mini movie. Non-fans may have a harder time getting into Videochrome, but there is one easy solution, and that's just to head out and pick up a bunch of her music. If you're really not sure what to get, I'd recommend the incredible "Science Fair", "Girl Versions", and even her debut CD, "Public". They're all great discs from an artist who has the star-potential of just about any artist I've heard of, and the kind of music that defies pop-boundaries.
