For those of you not hangin' with the Stones, I've organized a cozy show = of indie singer-songwriters to benefit my new home-away-from-home, the = Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund, for Wed. July 30. The CMTTF is a = charitable organization which, with the aid of the music industry, = raises funds to help with implementation of music therapy programs = across Canada. Its head office is the Music Therapy Centre in Toronto, = a place where adults and children with special needs are treated by = professional therapists who use rhythm and song to stimulate physical = and emotional response. =20 Music therapy is effectively utilized in the treatment of patients with = terminal illnesses, head/spinal injuries and debilitating diseases, as = well as children with autism and those suffering from psychological = trauma. On a simpler note, we all know the life-affirming force that = music has in our day-to-day lives as we deal with the emotional = difficulties that life throws at us. The CMTTF is committed to raising = awareness of music therapy and using its resources to ensure that those = in need have access to the healing power of music. I see on a daily = basis where the money goes and believe me, there's nothing like seeing = someone who is almost completely uncommunicative come alive at the pluck = of a guitar or the beat of a drum. =20 If you'd like to help the CMTTF, drop by on Wednesday July 30 at 8:30 = pm. Holy Joe's is at 651 Queen St. W, in the Big Bop at the corner of = Queen & Bathurst. Cover is only $5 and you'll likely leave a fan of our = featured artists - Nana Jokura, Graeme Donnelly, Shauna Major, Shane = Anthony and Gillian Stecyk. It will be a lovely night of music so come = out and support this great cause. Hope to see you there.
