Dunn" Subject: Emm at Hillside Headliners: I've just returned from the fantastic Hillside Folk Festival which ran all weekend in beautiful Guelph, Ontario. Being the 20th anniversary of the festival, the list of artists ran like a who's who of current hip Canadian music, with Emm being no exception. She played two sets this afternoon, one with her band, and one as part of a so-called songwriters' workshop with other guests sharing the stage, notably Mia Sheard, Kathleen Edwards, Christine Saunders, and Amy Nodwell. Due to lack of time she only got to play one song ("Drive") during the songwriters' circle, but she played a full 45-minute set during her own timeslot. As usual she was fantastic, and the set was generally comprised of fast, full-band songs, as the time constraints didn't permit her to do her usual solo interlude in the middle of the set. Hillside as usual was a fabulous festival and many of the performances I saw this weekend were to-notch. If you're anywhere within a four hour drive of Guelph during the last weekend of July, this is definitely the place to be.
