I'm not so much into the new album but their live shows are fun. Of course, all Maroon5 fans are Phantom Planet fans who are also Rilo Kiley fans who are also The Like fans who are also Rooney fans who are also fans of Grandaddy and that leads me to a Pete Yorn joke that I won't mention. In more important news, there's an ongoing debate that Rooney are a lot cuter than Maroon5 ;p Love Gemma (and most bands on Astralwerks). She's starts a U.S. tour in a few a weeks. Saw Pretty Girls Make Graves last Sunday with Blood Brothers. PGMG supposedly cancelled but they did play and rocked. Also wanted to mention everyone in the LA area to go to All Tomorrow's Parties. I'm really going to see Wire but Nick Cave, The Fall, and Jah Wobble??? And that's just for starters. I personally think this is going to be a lot more fun than Coachella which always turns out to be a battle with security and the weather. Anyway: atpfestival.com. Heard Emm showed up at Charlotte's show last night. Missed it. I am going to Charlotte's show next week (with special "surprise" guest), and hence will miss Emm's show at the Troubadour but the surprise guest will be worth it. Finally, I'll mention that the Buzzcocks have two shows in June in LA. Skip the El Rey and see them at the Viper Room. Trust me. So glad it's Friday. ~Candace __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. I'm not familiar with Maroon 5 or The Like, but it seems like I should check them out because I'm totally into Phantom Planet and Rilo Kiley and Rooney and Grandaddy!! Pete Yorn, not so much, as I skipped his portion of the Rooney/Grandaddy/PY show so that I can see The Flairs, The Dirtmitts, and The Weekend (Canadian female-front power-pop represent!). And go on, tell the Pete Yorn joke ;-) > Love Gemma (and most bands on Astralwerks). She's > starts a U.S. tour in a few a weeks. I've got a couple of songs of hers from a while back, but I think I should check her out after the glut of CDs I have in shrinkwrap have been listened to (for reference, they include, Paper Moon, Plumtree, and Vancouver Nights, among others). > Saw Pretty Girls Make Graves last Sunday with Blood > Brothers. Even though Andrea's vocals were not even closed to being loud enough, their set was still mad tight. And what more can I say about Les Savy Fav's live show that hasn't already been said? :-) > Also wanted to mention everyone in the LA > area to go to All Tomorrow's Parties. I'm really going > to see Wire but Nick Cave, The Fall, and Jah Wobble??? Is this the one curated by Matt Groening? IIRC, the line-up is an indie kid's wet dream. The re-formed Throwing Muses is playing too, eh? > And that's just for starters. The festival we have here in the northwest, Sasquatch, has a wicked line-up this year too. Death Cab, Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Neko Case, Liz Phair, Jason Mraz, Kathleen Edwards, Pedro the Lion, My Morning Jacket, Calexico, and a bunch of band I don't really know/like. Too bad I'm busy this weekend and have no money to pay for a trip down to Seattle.... At least I can take comfort in knowing that I have tickets for the big Flaming Lips/Modest Mouse/Liz Phair/Destoryer/Starlight Mints show on Sunday. That, and my New Music West wristband that'll get me in to see about 20 bands this week. And I guess tickets to Built to Spill, Death Cab/Dismemberment Plan/Enon, and The New Pornographers/The Organ in the next few weeks doesn't make me sad either ;-) Phew! Name-dropping is hard! :-) Hanson, who just came back from seeing 5 bands in 4 venues [1] [1] If you *must* know, I saw Kristy Thirsk, Reverie Sound Revue, Ghosts of Modern Men, Maplewood Lane and Paper Moon at The Tonic, The Royal, The Railway Club, and The Purple Onion :-) - -- "Oi with the poodles already!"
