I'm not really surprised, personally. For a lot of people, the name on the guitar (or anything else, for that matter) means more than how it sounds. The Seagull is a relatively inexpensive guitar, which a lot of players claim does not hold up to the rigors of constant use. Most complain about the durability of the top of the guitar, claiming it fails. Others dislike the flat finish, preferring the glossy finish of the more prestigious guitars (Martin, for one). However, a Seagull does have a solid top, good construction, and much better sound than 90% of the guitars in the same price range. I know all this, because I, too, own a Seagull guitar. And obviously, since Emm's guitar is in obvious good shape, it's durability is fine for her type of playing. Like anything else, the music industry is rife with people who don't always know everything but like to pretend they do. I've seen sound technicians that don't know the first thing about microphones and microphone placement, who don't understand the use of compression, and a myriad of other things. Likewise, I've seen musicians who don't understand the equipment they own and base everything they do on heresay, not experience. Emm, however, uses the available equipment very effectively, and has proven she can do more with a 4 track than some musicians can do with the latest Pro Tools workstation. TEC = Tangential Emm Content This one is for any Detroit, Ann Arbor, Toledo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, etc people on this list who might be interested... I don't know how it took me THIS long to find out about this, but I was just playing around on the 'net and came across this awesome concert and went and picked up my tickets ($25 is a bargain these days). If anyone's interested, Emm's good friend Matt Nathanson is playing and he is one of the most entertaining people to see live... he's hysterically funny, not to mention a talented performer. Emm has also played with Ari Hest, who is also performing and is very good. Information is listed below for anyone in the area who's interested... seems like there's still plenty of tickets available. Everyone who purchases a ticket will receive a compilation CD featuring the music of all the artists playing that day. P.S. Thanks to all the people who recommended The Postal Service's "Give Up" CD. It's one of my favorites of 2003 so far! You've gotta love Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie singing over electronica beats. Amazing. FEELING BETTER THAN EVERFINE FESTIVAL July 6, 2002 marked Everfine Records in association with Clear Channel Entertainment's first annual "Feeling Better Than Everfine Festival" in Cleveland, OH. I've already posted about Oval Opus. Check them out! (Emm played with them at a show in Chicago last month!) www.ovalopus.com I had the opportunity to see Maroon 5 open for the Sugar Ray/Matchbox Twenty concert in Cleveland on May 6. They were FANTASTIC and received positive feedback through local radio stations -- which is rare in Cleveland for an "up & coming artist/group" to get mentions on the radio!! Maroon 5's sound mixes rock, R&B and soul/folk and creates a sound unique to them. Check out their debut record "Songs about Jane", on Octone Records (an independent label of BMG). They have a great stage presence and had everyone in the arena on their feet and talking about them on the radio for days after the show! Maroon 5 is DEFINITELY a band to check out!! www.maroon5.com I also had the chance to see Marc Broussard open for Matt Nathanson May 9 at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland. Marc has a phenomenal voice!! Check out his debut record "Momentary Setback"! His music combines soul, rock and R&B. Having grown up in Lafayette, LA, you can definitely hear the influences of the south in his music. I loved his CD when I first heard it, but was blown away by his voice when I saw him live! If you have a chance to see him in your hometown, you should definitely go!! www.marcbroussard.com That's my two-cents worth... don't miss the festival!!! P.S. Last month, I posted about new artist Josh Kelly. (http://flashtracking.com/joshkelley) It was announced last week that Josh is opening for Third Eye Blind on their upcoming tour to promote their new CD!! I'm VERY EXCITED!! I purchased 3EB tix a few weeks ago. I can't wait to see Josh! Go check out his debut album, For the Ride Home, which hits stores June 3! You can listen to the complete album on the web site. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-headline-girl@smoe.org [mailto:owner-headline-girl@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Rob Tittel Sent: Sunday, May 18, 2003 9:14 PM To: Headline Girl Subject: TEC: How did I miss this one???
