Not really my thing because I've never been able to get passed singers who use multiple languages in one song unless, of course, they're Manu Chao. The chorus on the U2 cover is good though. Anyway, I guess I'll thrown in a recommendation as well. Not very new, but Annie Stela is a good local artist in the vein of Fiona and Aimee. She's playing this Sunday at the Derby ('Vegas, baby') http://www.anniestela.com/ http://www.filtermmm.net/annie/music2.htm In more rock news, I saw Throwing Muses twice this week and although Kristin was her usual non-communicative self, the band was just too good for words and Tanya was lovely on the first night. I also almost pee'd my pants when Bob Mould sat two tables down from us. The shows will be released on a DVD live set sometime, which explains the terrible house sound and the two guys roaming around with VX-1000s. I also saw the Postal Service on Monday. Jenny from Rilo Kiley joined them. Felt like I was 8 again jumping around to Korg'd out melodies and oscillated tones. Coachella came and went. Biggest surprise was me... leaving the Beastie Boys set for Amon Tobin. They spent half their set whining about Bush. We get it already. Highlight: Sunday's Mojave Tent action was THE place to be... Groove Armada, Hot Hot Heat, and Badly Drawn Boy. Lowlight: The moshpit during N*E*R*D's set (you call that a moshpit?!). Also, that weekend Johnny Marr and Soundtrack of Our Lives had secret shows at the Viper Room. Rick Rubin and Brian from Weezer toasted Coronas at one of the 'regular people can't sit here' tables. As for upcoming things... I'm still undecided on seeing the Mraz/Kreviazuk 'Eastern European derived names' tour. I do have tickets for Bjork in August (pre-sale went on sale today), Pete Yorn with Grandaddy (both nights), Daniel Lanois, Flaming Lips, Gillian Welch, Damien Rice, and Imperial Teen (the last LA show for original drummer Lynn Perko). Not listening to anything new lately besides Trespassers William's new one "Vapour Trail" which is fantastic. That's about it. Have a good weekend!!! ~Candace __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. The chorus on the U2 cover is good How 'bout Laurent Voulzy? He's not Manu Chao (or Manu Negra, if you like) but he does seem to combine multi-lingualisms well. Kinnie Starr does a passable job now and then... well I think its really only very successful in "Praise"off _Tidy_.
