I'm speechless, I can't even remember the last time I heard such a beautiful record...WOW. That's all I can say. I could write longer, but I'd rather go listen some more. Trust me, just go buy it! :) OK, back to lurking... ******************************** Mike Keast (mikekeast@email.com - -- _______________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2003 21:04:34 EST From: EvilGirl06@aol.com Subject: Re: NEC: Stars This has nothing to do with Stars, but.. When someone recommends a cd to buy, can they please (pretty please) state what kind of music it is? Just a short description will do (ie. rock, country, folk, etc.) or what they sound like, or something like that. Cause I don't really want to just go out and buy a cd til I know exactly what it is I'm buying (Not that I don't trust your tastes). Thank you. On another note..not knowing what Frou Frou sounded like, I just bought the cd at The Wherehouse, and since they were closing their stores, it was only $6. ------------------------------ Date: 27 Mar 2003 22:33:56 -0500 From: "Julian C. That's a great suggestion -- particularly since a lot of folks don't seem to realize that just because $artist is their most favourite bestest find of the whole decade, not everyone else will like it. (Memories of eagerly anticipating Tift Merritt's set at NXNE last year - -- only to find out that she is hardcore country/bluegrass -- come back to haunt me.) In other words, "I agree" (but I have better netiquette than to just say that :-P ) What DOES Frou Frou sound like, anyway?! Not that I've been able to find that CD -ANYWHERE- on Toronto music store shelves. - - Julian - -- [ Julian C. Wonderfully heartbreaking lyrics, to boot. I am totally addicted. The CD is called "Details," and should be available at most record chains (Tower, Virgin, HMV, etc). They're on MCA. Maybe it doesn't have Canadian distribution, but you can get it on Amazon for just $9.99 (you can also hear samples there). Here's what Amazon has to say about it: Named after the French word for the rustle of silk, Frou Frou's debut album exudes cool, stylish elegance. Singer Imogen Heap's soft, whispery vocals intone dreamy lyrics of doomed romances and slow recoveries. The songs are penned by Heap and her partner, producer Guy Sigsworth (Bjvrk, Madonna), who manned the board on Heap's 1998 solo album I Megaphone. Even the mighty Brian Eno gets into the act, with a cowriting credit on the soul-bearing "Hear Me Out." In fact, all 11 tracks deal with love and fractured relationships, hauntingly beautiful both in their stark emotional content and the equally sparse arrangements that showcase Heap's ethereal voice, which she uses as a subtle weapon, much like Joni Mitchell circa 1970's Ladies of the Canyon, with the same heart-stopping yet effortless octave leaps. --Jaan Uhelszki - --- Stereocrumb@aol.com wrote: > frou frou...kinda sounds like esthero..or everything but the > girl.. well > that's what i think Yahoo!
