Our fabulous Ms. Emm Gryner mentions the war in her journal. She has shared her thoughts with us concerning the war. Emm's words have provoked thought and incited discussion. We are all here to share our thoughts concerning Emm. This concerns her as many of us well. I personally have tried to include "NEC" in the subject line. Perhaps, I should start a new one like "WEC" - war and emm content. What do you think? Please, if we are not able to talk to alleviate some of anxiety, then what? We are just all a bit unsettled, and worldly matters have recently been concerning more than just our little Emm Gryner worlds. Believe me, I know. I love few things more than Emm. So please be patient and hopefully everything will return to norm shortly. Last night my friend and I had the opportunity to attend the Edwin McCain/Jeffrey Gaines/Oval Opus concert at The Odeon in Cleveland for FREE -- which is always the best way to see live, good music! It was a great concert! I'm sure many of you have heard of Edwin McCain & Jeffrey Gaines (which I found surprisingly good); however, maybe you haven't heard of Oval Opus! They're a band from Cincinnati, Ohio. I had heard of them prior to the concert, but had never heard their music. I purchased their latest CD "Red Sky Recovery" and it's awesome! (This morning I discovered that you can purchase their CDs at Aware Records' On-line Store.) The band has opened for a variety of national acts including: Sister Hazel, Fastball, Guster, Rusted Root, Howie Day, O. A. R, The Pat McGee Band, Vertical Horizon, The Why Store and many others. I've discovered many great artists through recommendations from people on this list. So, here's my recommendation to all of you! Please check them out - www.ovalopus.com - I think you'll like what you'll hear! Take Care! My comments will be very brief because I could go on and on about the status of the world. People have so many different opinions on all areas of the conflict(war, i guess i can call it war now). Knowing that the war has started...I feel that all I can do now is pray and hope it will end quickly, and the loss of life is a low number. What is even more important to me is trying to be a light in this world. With so much nasty, negative thoughts looming...we can continue to bitch about everything or we can love. This might have sounded all happy and positive and go hug your neighbor type of feel, but I really believe that we need to be positive for the sake of our friends, families, and strangers(especially children!!!). Last night I had the opportunity to see Zwan(Billy Corgan's new band)...if you have the time to see them please do. They are better live than on their album...which is damn good to begin with. Billy did an excellent job of acknowledging the war. It felt so good to listen to a great rock band! Isn't that why we created the "NEC, SEC, and EC" labels, so people who only want to read anything Emm-related can delete anything else? Actually, I feel that I have started this whole debacle, and I didn't realize it would create such heated debates. I simply wanted to know what the Canadians on the list (some of who are my good friends) viewed things, because if I am correct, the Canadian media is covering this war in an entirely different viewpoint than the American media. It's not as biased, I suppose. And I agree with what Tony wrote: > Please remember, whether you are for or against war. Those 300,000 > or so troops over in Iraq are fighting, and some will be > dying, to protect > all of us. I am wearing a yellow ribbon on my arm everyday in support of the *troops* fighting for us, not necessarily the war. Also, for those active protestors against the war, I think it's a bit hypocritical to act violently towards police officers and sometimes eachother, creating mini-riots during rallies, in an act for "Peace". Otherwise, YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE! HY-PO-CRITE! I served six years in the US Navy. While in the Navy I served aboard the USS Atlanta (SSN-712) Los Angeles class Fast Attack submarine. I VOLUNTEERED for that duty. Added up I spent over two years of my life under water serving to protect the United States and its Allies. I, as well as most everyone else on the sub, took my oath to protect the United states very seriously. We were placed in some very dangerous situations during the course of our duties. No one ever complained. We knew that if something went wrong, that if we died performing our duties, it was worth it because we died serving a greater purpose. We died protecting America. All we hoped for is that like those who had gone before us we would be honored as heroes. We may not have been honored as heroes because what we were doing was then and is now top secret. A small price to pay though... We would have died knowing what we had done for our country. We would have died with honor. (You can put your terrible government thoughts away, we never killed anyone.) When I am called a hypocrite and told to get on the front lines... I have been there. The crew of our sub tasted death 3 times... Each time we stood our posts and performed our duties with professionalism and honor. When you say most people joined the military to make a better life, maybe, at first, some did. You may not understand how people in the military think. We don't expect you to. Being in the military is not easy. The pay is not that great, the benefits aren't that good and you're constantly away from home. People do it because they love there country and they want to protect those who live in it and their way of life. DO NOT dishonor them (and me) by implying that they (and I) do not believe in the cause they are fighting for and that they are not prepared to die if necessary for the safety of the US and the world.
