As the Emmbassador to Florida (yes, self-proclaimed!) I thought I would fill you in on last night's performance at Rollins College, in Winter Park, FL. First, let me say that it was great to only have to travel 2 hours to see Emm. My normal routine is to find some excuse to visit family in Virginia and then travel 4.5 hrs to DC. Rollins College is pretty small, but they had a nice set-up in their student union where there was also a nice stage. The turnout was fairly good. There were many people milling in and out as the show was going, and there was also a fairly good-sized permanent crowd. It seemed like a lot of the attendees were being exposed to Emm for the first time, which I think is always a good thing. The song list for the night: Your Sort of Human Being Waiting Room 89 Days of Alcatraz Crazy Train Drive (new song--very nice :)) Wisdom Bus Julia Divine Like You Intermission with special guest Bill Poole (with much encouragement from the audience) who played "The Freshmen" (The Verve Pipe) quite admirably on Emm's guitar (except for minor lyrical problems: "for these sins," not "forty cents"). Beautiful Things Half Sorry Summerlong Sunnify (or "Sunnify Your Rain") Symphonic Acid Small intermission for the Rollins college version of "American Idol" where Emm encouraged participants from the audience to sing and have their performances ridiculed by volunteer "Randy," "Paula," and "Simon." Case of Tornados (which really kicked ass!) The crowd was very friendly, and I think they were really into Emm. Between songs, Emm told stories about marines in her hotel, American Idol and "fireworks" at Disneyland. All in all, it was a great night. Emm sounded great, and the sound system used was just about perfect for the acoustics of "Dave's Down Under" (low ceiling but big room). I would be interested, if anyone knows, in finding out how this gig came about. If Rollins can get Emm, then we here at the University of Florida (45,000 students) should be able to find a way.
