Here's a article on the official site from Access magazine (Fall '99) that mentions it: http://www.emmgryner.com/emmxrev37.htm Whether it's autobiographical or not, I was listening to the song "Mary Jill" and started to think about the lyrics (surprisingly enough, not something I do too often). The point of view of the song is different than many of her other songs. I wondered who Mary Jill was, remembered some previous ponderings on what "Emm" stood for, and started trying to interpret the song as if she was writing about herself, and it pretty well fit. A quick Google search on Mary Gryner brought the CHRW link right away. (I think this all started several months ago when I was trying to find some reference to the MIA single online and kept coming up blanks. I knew it was recorded under her own name, but I had no idea what.) I figured I'd share since I've been looking for these songs, as I'm sure, have many others. The IOTA show WILL go on....however, Leona Naess will be detained in the UK and unable to play on Sunday, Sept. 22. Please note that Leona will be back for all other scheduled gigs with Emm. Apologies for the inconvenience...there will be an opening act for Emm on Sunday, and it still starts at 3PM, all ages. Hope to see many of you there. Emm wrote the song as a gift to her friend. That is how she introduced it the first time she played the song live for an audience, a few months before "Dead Relatives" was released. Whether the friend's name is actually Mary Jill, I don't know - - and perhaps Emm incorporated her own name into it for the song. But there you go - it's not autobiographical. dana p.s. Any word on the Akron show tonight? p.p.s. I called the Point today and found out the show is almost sold out: so if you have not yet purchased your tickets, you can do so in advance at www.ticketweb.com or directly at the Point. I do recommend getting tix in advance, because I wouldn't want anyone to show up and not get in that night. Same goes for Village Underground and Maxwells. - --- Greg Teltschik wrote: > At 18:24 9/16/2002 -0500, Luis B.
