It's been over a year since I've seen them, and they're still incredible. Their new album, If It Was You, will be out on August 20th, and after hearing nearly a full set of new abum material, I'm going to recommend the album to you all! So yeah, my question is, was anyone else at the Casbah show in Hamilton tonight? I was a wee bit late because I got stuck at work late (until after 9) and then I still had to make the trip from Niagara on the Lake to Hamilton. Anyway, I got there a bit after 10 and the first full song I heard was Underwater. Could anyone who was there (if anyone was there) tell me if I missed a lot? Thanks a lot! Some of you know that I put on a benefit show every year in Toronto at the C'est What club (home to the famed FumbleRumble of '99, the place where artists like Emm Gryner and Sarah Slean got their start). This year's edition has sort of fallen through this time around (a couple of last-minute cancellations, practically every local artist is busy this summer, etc.). BUT, we are still going ahead with a small benefit show anyway, and this means that we need every last person that we can possibly get into the place in order to raise a decent amount of money for the cause in question. So those of you in the Toronto area, *please* make an effort to be there, and spread the word as well! It's going to be a great night of music for a good cause. Details are below. Feel free to pass on the info to anyone that you think might be interested (e.g. if someone could please forward this to the Ecto list, that would be great). Hope to see some of you there, - - Tab :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ August 12, 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Rant Mode On Productions Presents A Benefit for the Scarborough Community Health Centre Clinic August 17, 2002 C'est What, 19 Church St. (@ Front) Doors 9:30 pm Cover $7 19+ Featuring ANDREA FLORIAN and EMALINE DELAPAIX with guests VYLETZ Rant Mode On Productions is pleased to present their 4th annual benefit concert at venerable Toronto club C'est What, featuring Toronto singer-songwriter Andrea Florian and visiting Australian musician Emaline Delapaix, with the talents of local folk-pop duo Vyletz. For the past four summers, the Rant Mode On collective has presented some of Toronto's best singer-songwriters (including Emm Gryner, Sarah Slean, Luke Doucet, Leslie Feist and more) in support of various local social justice causes (Toronto Disaster Relief Committee, Women in Transition, Red Cross Kosovo Refugee Fund). This year's artists have come together in support of the Scarborough Community Health Centre clinic, a volunteer-based organization that offers free health care to new immigrants and refugees who would not otherwise be able to afford it. Toronto singer-songwriter ANDREA FLORIAN is no stranger to C'est What, having nurtured her warm, acoustic-based sound at the club. A mainstay on the local independent music scene over the past several years, Florian is getting ready to release her first new album in over two years. The album, a collaboration with guitarist Tracy Jones and produced by John Switzer (Jane Siberry), features guest appearances by several noted local musicians and is slated for an early 2003 release. Joining Florian will be Australian singer-songwriter EMALINE DELAPAIX, whose first appearances in Canada last year were extremely well-received. Drawing on everything from pop to jazz to folk, Delapaix blends beautiful vocals with lush melodies, backed by her musical sidekick Amira Pyliotis on guitar and Toronto's Meran Currie-Roberts (Sarah Slean) on cello. Opening the evening will be local duo VYLETZ. Spunky grrls Chelle and Liz have been serving up their brand of honest, catchy tunes with bite for the past two years, making a name for themselves on the local scene with their "Galactic Cherry Delay" CD. Vyletz recently released "Cherry Pits: The Tom Foolery EP", a short collection of live favourites recorded (where else?) at C'est What. The show promises to be a special evening of music for an important cause.
