Kristen is hanging in there and staying in pretty good spirits. She has been out of the hospital bed and even walked around the floor a little bit today. She gets a ton of visitors everyday and that is helping a lot. She has a pretty positive attitude about her condition and seems to be geared up for a long fight. They told her today that the tube in her nose will probably come out in the next few days. She still is a few days away from solid food. They don't want to start her on that too early, because if the colon is not healed fully, it could tear and she would need a colostomy -- and as she put it, that would put a serious damper on pool season. So her spirits are good despite the fact that she did not get good news today. The doctors came in and gave her prognosis to her now that the biopsy is done on the tumor. It is Colon Cancer, stage 4, not Ovarian cancer as previously thought. Kristen asked how long she would have if she were to not get treatment (not the she doesn't intend to); she just wanted a time table -- they said a year. With treatment, however, it will slow the cancer down and who knows how much time she could have. Stranger things have happened and we still are praying for a miracle. To put it in current events terms, just look at Lance Armstrong. He was given a 4 in 10 chance of survival -- so advanced was his disease that no doctor gave him a chance, and not only did he overcome it, but he went on to win his 4th Tour de France this year -- a bike race so long an intense that it takes almost 3 weeks and 2,000 miles to complete. So with a positive mental outlook, anything could happen. Kristen said tonight over and over again, "I'm going to fight this". She has no intention of quiting. She could begin Chemotherapy as early as next week. They need to do a CAT scan on her and some other tests before they can begin. But she will NOT quit. We her friends will not quit on her either. I want to personally thank everyone who has emailed back and sent their well wishes and prayers. The response to my first email has been overwhelming. I'm going to print every email that you guys sent me and put them in a folder and take them to her tomorrow wehn I go to visit her so she can see what wonderful people she has in her corner. I promise to keep you all updated as she progresses through her treatment. Thanks again everyone. Keep praying. Please inform anyone you might know who is planning to go. We are trying to find an alternate venue last minute, but of course, a Saturday night in a major city is all booked up. If we do find a different venue, I'll post it here, and we'll try to get it up on Emm's site. I want to let you all know the circumstances behind this. We have had this show booked for at least a couple months now. Two days ago, Magdalen Hsu-Li (the local artist on the bill, who booked the show for us) received a call from the club owner that he decided to book a birthday party that would bring in 50 people (and guarantee 50 paid meals) the same evening as our show. So, he booked the party and cancelled our show. Nevermind that we had already sent out press listings and did some serious promotion for this show. He proposed doing the show the following night, but Emm has a show in Sarnia that evening, so that isn't feasible. Musicians on this list - if you plan to go through Seattle on any tour, do not book at the Steel Sky Bistro. Please tell other musicians you know. I'm really infuriated that a club owner would do this the week of a show, and I sincerely hope this does not happen again. Dana Yahoo! Doesn't that guy know that he's such a major @$$hole? I wonder if you guys can sue him for breach of contract and expenses at the cost of the public awareness. Why don't yall stick it to him in small claims court, while I wait for him in the parking lot with vaseline and big OL' splintered bat. Anyhow, yall shouldn't play at a venue that scoffs at two months preparation. He's lucky I wasn't the guy he screwed over. Oh well, c'est la vie. cheerio, John. - --- dana wagner wrote: > Headliners, > > I have some unfortunate news that Emm's show in > Seattle at the Steel Sky Bistro this Saturday has > been > cancelled.
