["Danila Bloomberg" Subject: A HUGE favor to ask... Hi Everyone -- I interrupt your regularly scheduled banter about all things Emm and Sarah to ask for a HUGE favor. I don't consider myself an extremely religious person, but I do feel I am spiritual in some way and I do believe in the power of prayer and positive thought as a healing mechanism. I want to ask all of you who may be religious to please say a prayer to whatever god you pray to for my roommate. She went to her doctor about 4 weeks ago after she noticed she had started gaining weight again and her abdominal area was starting to swell a bit. They did some tests and the doctors said she had some cysts on her ovaries and was going to need surgery. They scheduled her for a surgery in August. Over the last three weeks however, her condition worsened by the day. She begin to feel a huge energy drain (taking a shower in the morning to get ready for work became a hugely tasking effort). She was sleeping a lot and always in great pain. She went back to the doctor's several times; they prescribed Darvasett; that didn't work; they prescribed Vicadin. That helped a little, but eventually wore off as well. Finally the pain was so intense and crippling that she went back to the doctor again this past Monday. They examined her again and were disturbed to find elevated LDH and CA125 levels in her blood. They immediately bumped up her surgery to this Friday. So yesterday she went under the knife at 1:30pmEST. When the doctors came out, the news was NOT good. They said Kristen had an very advanced and aggressive cancer. The surgical team did a complete hysterectomy and removed part of her colon. The cancer had engulfed both of her ovaries and part of her colon and had moved into her uterus. They removed all of the tumor but it remains to be seen if the cancer has spread into other parts of her body. More testing needs to be done and a biopsy on the tumor done to determine what kind of cancer this is, how aggressive it is, and what the next course of action is. Kristen is only 30 years old. MY AGE for gods sake. It's not fair to anyone to have this disease at ANY age, but especially not so young. I have lost my mother to Ovarian cancer 6 years ago and my Uncle to Brain cancer just 2 years ago. Cancer is extremely prevalent to me it seems. I know there must be others of you on this list that have been personally affected by this disease. While I know none of you know Kristen (except Trish Concepcion who played at a benefit party for her for another tragedy about 3 years ago), I ask that you keep her in your thoughts. Thank you everyone, Rob P.S. as I am typing this email, Kristen called me. she is out of recovery and into a normal hospital room. I am probably going to visit her today or tomorrow, and if anyone wants an update you can email me personally.... thank you all for keeping her in your thoughts We now return you to your regularly scheduled Emm and Sarah content....................................... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rob Tittel DreamsAwake Music Music and Concert Reviews, News Tour Dates, Booking, Publicity, NetRadio, and more... www.dreamsawake.com Click here to Listen to Jericho Two, indie-rock, folk, and 90's alternative internet radio www.live365.com/stations/193197 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Jul 2002 11:32:56 EDT From: TrishTLC@aol.com Subject: Re: A HUGE favor to ask... Rob, I am so sorry to hear about Kristin. She is such a bright and inspiring woman, and I don't see her doing anything but recovering from this battle. Cancer is really prelevant in my family too, but it seems to hit just about everyone. You are both in my prayers. Mariano) Subject: Emm In San Diego Hey everyone, So I went to see Jenny Choi, Emm, Jason & Jane and Annie Lin at Twigg's Coffeehouse & Bakery last night. It was the first stop on their Asian-American Songwriters Showcase Tour. Emm was AWESOME, (of course), and the other performers were pretty darn impressive as well. Jenny Choi did a piano set. To me, her music sounded like excerpts from a stage play or musical. Different. I really liked it. Her between-song-banter was hilarious. I am officially a new fan of hers. Emm came on next. She did about 7 or 8 songs. She started with, 'Sort Of Human Being,' and ended with the incredible, 'Hook Machine.' I remember reading on here that quite a few people didn't like the song, 'Christopher.' She performed that song on piano and I thought it was one of the best in her set. Maybe it's just the studio version they don't like? I picked up 'Asian Blue' at the showcase but haven't listened to it yet. We'll see... Jason & Jane are a local duo. Their harmonies were really good and Jason's guitar playing was incredible. I wish they had a CD there so I could have picked one up. All the other performers did. Annie Lin. The best way to describe her set: 'ROCKIN!' I'm surprised she didn't break any of her strings with the way she was strumming her guitar. This show was really good. I got to see Emm again and got exposed to other artists that I've never heard of before, but am now a fan of. Thank goodness it was posted on Emm's website or I would have missed it! Go see them if they stop in or around your neck of the woods! This is the second time Emm's come to San Diego that I know of. The first was at Java Joe's where I was one of about 15 people in the audience. This time the room was packed and there were people standing in the back as well. Here's to good times! Cheers!
