Just wanted to let everyone know that Toronto booker extraordinaire Yvonne Matsell, formerly of the late great Ted's Wrecking Yard, has landed at the horrid little dive on College Street known as Rancho Relaxo. ;) Glad to hear that she'll be working her booking magic *some*where, but I have to say I'm not a big fan of the very seedy Rancho and its cramped upstairs space. Oh, well - I suppose it is about the music and not the atmosphere, right? ;) Although it's always nice when the two intersect. :) And besides, most of the list favourites, including Emm and Sarah, have moved on up from a space like Ted's, let alone *Rancho Relaxo* (!), but it'll be good for some of their other compadres like Leslie Feist, Jason Collett, et al. And speaking of Mr. Collett, Yvonne's reign at Rancho gets underway this coming Monday night with the relaunch of the excellent old "Radio Mondays" songwriters' series, hosted by Jason Collett. The January/February lineup is as follows (with the first two looking especially promising): Jan 7: Spookey Ruben, Leslie Feist, Jim Guthrie, Metric Jan 14: Kate Fenner, Chris Brown, Aaron Riches (Royal City), Andrew Cash (Cash Brothers) Jan 21: Moe Berg, Ian Lefeuvre (Starling), Lynn Miles, Kat Goldman Jan 28: Ian Blurton (Blurtonia), Howie Beck, Andrew Rodriguez (Bodega), Ruby Drake Feb 4: John Critchley (13 Engines), Dave Clark (Woodchoppers Association), Josh Finlayson (Skydiggers), Amy Millan (Stars) Feb 11: Luther Wright (Weeping Tile, Luther Wright & The Wrongs), Jenny Whiteley (Heartbreak Hill), Bob Egan (Blue Rodeo, Wilco), Reid Jameson So yeah, normally I prefer to avoid dives like Rancho Relaxo like the plague, but when the music's this good and interesting (potentially, anyway - - I've been to a lot of Radio Mondays and they're almost always terrific), hopefully it'll transcend the atmosphere... So those of you in and around Toronto, do drop in on a show there that sounds interesting - you'll be supporting the doyenne of one of our old haunts *and* the artists she champions. - - Tab :) _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Jan 2002 13:58:48 +0000 From: "Lindi ." Subject: Re: OAC/BST: Yvonne Matsell rises again (Ted's Wrecking Yard update) Also... Rancho Relaxo supposedly has Ted's old sound system, so that should be cool too. I have been booked to play there on January 9th with Nail Leyton and J17. So please come check it out. cheers Lindi www.lindi.org >From: "Tab Siddiqui" >To: headline-girl@smoe.org, navy-soup@smoe.org >Subject: OAC/BST: Yvonne Matsell rises again (Ted's Wrecking Yard update) >Date: Fri, 04 Jan 2002 05:57:06 > >Happy New Year, everybody! > >Just wanted to let everyone know that Toronto booker extraordinaire >Yvonne >Matsell, formerly of the late great Ted's Wrecking Yard, has landed >at the >horrid little dive on College Street known as Rancho Relaxo. ;) >Glad to >hear that she'll be working her booking magic *some*where, but I >have to say >I'm not a big fan of the very seedy Rancho and its cramped upstairs >space. > Oh, well - I suppose it is about the music and not the >atmosphere, >right? ;) Although it's always nice when the two intersect. :) > >And besides, most of the list favourites, including Emm and Sarah, >have >moved on up from a space like Ted's, let alone *Rancho Relaxo* (!), >but >it'll be good for some of their other compadres like Leslie Feist, >Jason >Collett, et al. > >And speaking of Mr. Collett, Yvonne's reign at Rancho gets underway >this >coming Monday night with the relaunch of the excellent old "Radio >Mondays" >songwriters' series, hosted by Jason Collett.
