Usually, I have trouble narrowing the list down to just 10 discs. This year, I find myself in the strange position of having to really push to find 10 discs that I listened to more than once or twice. So I'm gonna do a top 5, I think, and then add a hopeful list. Hopeful because these are albums I haven't listened to yet, or still hope will grow on me. Top 10...er 5 1. Dar Williams - Out There Live 2. Jonatha Brooke - Steady Pull 3. Craig David - Born to Do It (actually a 200 release, but 2001 in the US) 4. Cranberries - Wake Up and Smell the Coffee 5. Bridget Jones' Diary OST Close, but not quite included: 1. Emm Gryner - Girl Versions (You all know the story about this one. The final release just didn't have the full energy of a real Emm show, which is why it's not on the top 10, er 5. Close, though, really close). 2. The Charlatans (UK) - Wonderland (Haven't listened to it enough) 3. Stephen Kellogg - ...south of stephen (He opened for Emm at The Point in Bryn Mawr, still growing on me. Reminds me of a cross between Jim Croce and James Taylor). 4. Martina McBride - Greastest Hits 5. Ebba Forsberg - True Love (Betcha didn't know she had a new one out, did ya? Well, it's only available in Sweden. CDs I have high hopes for: 1. Garbage - beautiful garbage (Bought it the day it was released. It's still shrink-wrapped. 2. My Fair Lady 2001 London Cast Recording (Just saw this musical last Saturday in London. Based roughly on the movie starring Audrey Hepburn. Really good show, and catchy songs.) 3. Kylie Minogue - Fever (Hard to surpass last year's Light Years; haven't listened enough). 4. Maren Ord - Waiting (surprised by this one) 5. Suzanne Vega - Songs on Red and Gray (just haven't listened enough to make a decision) Hmm...concerts....Did I go to 5 concerts this year? 1. Tara MacLean - Peterborough Festival of Lights, Peterborough, Ontario. 2. Emm Gryner - Metro Cafe, April/May (?), Washington, DC. 3. My Fair Lady - Royal Theater Drury Lane, London, UK (maybe I'm cheating, but hey - where else can you hear Jonathan Pryce singing live? [yes, the Lexus car guy]) 4. Emm Gryner - The Point, Bryn Mawr, PA 5. Pass I've seen a few more shows, but they weren't as good as these, when taken in whole. I do have to mention Annie Lin as one of the opening acts for Sarah Harmer in Houston ( I hated the rest of the show), Emm, Jess, Cameron, that other guy, and the sound guy at The Living Room in New York City, Emm again at the Metro Cafe (scurvy night), and finally Emm in Sarnia. I definitely enjoyed all these, but not as much as the five above. So what am I looking forward to: New studio album from Emm Gryner New studio album from Tara MacLean New studio album from Sarah McLachlan (is that due next year or not?) Tara in concert again, lugging along the new Lil' Pudding (due any day now!) About all for now.
