(I'll go hide now...) I do like how we all have different musical tastes on this list and sometimes they actually overlap. :) elizabeth > > > Hmmm... No need to hide! ;) Better to be honest than pretend you like something, right? :) I don't like "Everywhere" much either. I got an advance of her album (and knew about her from her indie days when she had an indie record out...which you can still get. Produced by Rick Neigher, who has produced Melanie Doane records along with many others, and it's much more acoustic and not as overproduced as her new one) and the first song I heard was "Everywhere" and while I find it very catchy, I knew immediately that it was produced specifically to be a single. It's got that AAA radio/MTV pop/single format going on--a zillion layers of bg vocals, big drums and guitars, quick verses into the chorus, a chorus that stays in your head all day, lyrics that seemingly everyone can understand, sparkly production, etc., etc.... The rest of the album is better than the single, imho, if you're into pop/rock type music. I admit that I did listen to the record quite a bit this summer because I just needed something upbeat/happy to listen to... then a few weeks later I moved on to something else... The lyrics aren 't all that deep or anything, and the production/songs get annoying after awhile (song after song it's the same thing...), BUT it's not a bad record really. It has its moments :) I know what you're saying about the single and it being overplayed, though. That's totally the record label. I read an article earlier this summer pre-Michelle's record release, about Maverick and some of their woes and how they were completely relying on Michelle's record and Alanis Morissette's new one (which was supposed to be out in June)... apparently they were having some issues at the label (would have to dig up the article because I can't remember all of the specifics)... So they are REALLY pushing Michelle's record. It has, no pun intended, been everywhere. The new single isn't even being released until the new year... It's called "All you wanted" and it's not too different from "Everywhere" in the format/production... so.... yeah. And never hide if you don't like something ;) I think it's cool that everyone here likes lots of different kinds of music and isn't afraid to give their opinion if something sucks. :) Jess, who would rather listen to "everywhere" than "i'm a slave 4 u" if she was stranded on a deserted island ;) www.jessicaweiser.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Nov 2001 10:00:57 -0500 From: rturingan@dico.com Subject: Re: Michelle Branch vs. Plumb vs. Jennifer Paige My creditability is going right down the tubes with this post..... >>>Jess, who would rather listen to "everywhere" than "i'm a slave 4 u" if she was stranded on a deserted island ;) Admittedly i LOVE this song.. admittedly i love a lot of pop music.... and admittedly i downloaded some mp3's on the weekend of nkotb, debbie gibson and tiffany... gawd i use to have this huge crush on joey macintyre from nkotb.... has anyone heard either of his solo efforts? i am very curious... sometimes light and fluffy is just what you need..... although if you want some serious kickass music, come to the art bar on thursday.... I don't know how she could have sounded like that with all the moves she was doing, anyway.
