Hey, Kristin: I have Darcie's album, but haven't had much of a chance to listen to it yet. She is on the Patty Griffin List (Mad Mission) and highly recommended by them, so that *may* have been how you've heard of her. I believe she's been signed to a major label now, at least that's what some of the emails that were flying around. She's a Pennsylvania girl and doesn't really play out of state it seems, so I may have to take a road trip, depending. Jess W. should have some input on this one....Jess? gretchen >From: "Kristin White" >To: headline-girl@smoe.org >Subject: darcie miner? >Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 01:00:18 -0500 > >hey >i was just wondering if any of you guys have ever heard of her? i >dont know >how i ended up with her songs on my playlist...it was either through >a >recommendation by someone on *probably* this mailing list...or >mp3.com...not >totally sure...but anyway, i just finally checked out her >website...read all >her song lyrics...wow...she is amazing!!! eveyrone should check her >out if >you havent heard of her....www.darcieminer.com >wow! >kristin > >"Your eyes are mockingbirds inside a guilded cage, your life's a >silent >movie that I haven't heard for ages. Yup. Actually, we are recording our albums (she was recently signed to Beyond/Universal) at the same studio. She has an album out called Down To Earth which was released a few years ago. It is a great album and some tracks to check out are "Goodbye," "He Said," "My Angel," and "Falling Apart." And... a bunch of the tracks from that album will be on her new album (hehe, I get the inside scoop from the studio guys ;) )... So there ya go. She's great and the label debut is probably going to be out in the spring. And she (like me!) is a huge Patty Griffin fan and covers her songs at shows and they are incredible... she has a really powerful voice and a great backing band. I forgot, because some people need a comparison as a reference point ;) her music is similiar to Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Patty Griffin, etc. Just really good rock songs and her voice is strong and soaring. Jess ps: and if you like her album you might like my debut LP because it is straight rock and roll and we are using a lot of the same excellent musicians. shameless plug ;) www.jessicaweiser.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 08:13:39 EST From: KNicky3116@aol.com Subject: NEC: reminder for Boston people Check out Cameron Dezen at the Kendall Cafe in Cambridge TONIGHT at 8:30! Paige CD only because she covers the song "Stranded" which is done by the band Plumb... and a lot of people find that "Stranded" sounds a bit like Michelle's "Everywhere"... I like the song "Stranded" (the original version of it) so I wanted to hear how Jennifer Paige did it on her album... But I haven't heard enough of the songs to really have an opinion on it... Have heard a few clips and a few full songs from the Jewel album... upon first listen liked it more than the Spirit album... So I don't know if it's a trend or not... not sure. I know that my own record is going to be a rock record and lots of guitar and great percussion and all that, but not because of any sort of trend, because I've wanted (and have waited) to make a record that sounded like this for 2 years now ;) Does anyone know who produced the new Alanis (which was supposed to be out in June but she's had a few label issues...). I heard that she had produced and arranged it but I'm not sure if that's true (read it in Rolling Stone many months ago)... I recall bringing up the whole Michelle Branch / Plumb similarity a while ago... Everytime I heard Everywhere I thought it sounded like another song, and I was trying to remember what song it was but I could only think of a couple lines from it and then Jess sparked my memory and knew what I was talking about. And then I think we got to discussing it. It seems it's becoming agreed upon by lots of people that the songs are just too similar. I'm afraid to get into this debate again though, since we've done it already. :-) ~laura ===== http://www.laurarobeson.com AIM: Trinity51682 music.art.photography.randomness. ******** Find the one for you at Yahoo! Also, I forgot to mention in my previous posts that she's actually performing as a band now and not solo, so look out for the Darcie Miner Band in the new year ;) Jess www.jessicaweiser.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Nov 2001 02:38:02 +0000 From: "Lindi ."
