Li Robbins (who's no Li Po) mentioned Emm while reviewing the Joni (Mitchell) ;-) Tribute night (Page R8). You can read it on line here: http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/GIS.Servlets.HTMLTemplate?tf=tgam/common/ FullStory.html&cf=tgam/common/FullStory.cfg&configFileLoc=tgam/config&vg=BigA dVariableGenerator&date=20011019&dateOffset=&hub=thearts&title=Arts&cache_key =theartsTheatreHeadline¤t_row=3&start_row=3&num_rows=1 Or read this sentence: "Had Mitchell been present, there certainly would have been at least one other reward for her own "chicken scratching" for immortality, to borrow words from Hejira. She would have borne witness to more than the seasoned performers of her own generation, but also to the younger performers like Emm Gryner, Martina Sorbara, and the aforementioned Ember Swift, who use Mitchell's clear vision to fuel their own vistas." Taking the personal intricacies of her 89X single "Summerlong" of a summer relationship fallen to the wayside, Emm chose a classical pinch on modern pop-rock and pushed the pop aura and delicate charm to woo her way in. In addition to her major label debut in 1998, singing backup for David Bowie and making friends everywhere, Emm will play an intimate show this Wednesday at Brazil. Girly singer/songwriter honesty with some smack-ass attitude. ===== "reality never lives up to all that it used to be, never seems quite how it used to seem, cannot be all that it used to be." - beth orton Make a great connection at Yahoo! The tribute night was really great, even though each performer only had time to do two songs. Emm did a beautiful cover of "Just A Little Green" from Joni's "Blue" album, and one other number which slips my mind. Altogether well worth the $25. - - Julian - -- [ Julian C.
