A few of my friends had the idea yesterday afternoon to put down a piece of butcher paper in Union Square Park so that him, his friends, and everyone else who was interested could write down some of the things they were thinking. The response was overwhelming and since then hundreds and hundreds of people have come to write and light candles. The front of the park is now covered in paper. I've read a lot of it and some of it is beautiful and some of it devestating. It's all going to be preserved, possibly at the Smithsonian, as a historical artifact. If anyone has anything they want me to add for them, drop me a line and I can do that tomorrow. Lower Manhattan is a very strange place to be right now. The majority of people I know here saw the towers come down. Many of my friends have been evacuated from their homes indefinitely. There's National Gaurd everywhere and I had to show ID just to be allowed on the street that takes me home. The air is filled with dust and reeks of smoke. I'm sure you've all seen it on the news. lauren ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 05:27:54 -0400 From: "chelle shock" Subject: Re: benefits heya Kristin, if you plan on doing anything... or know\hear of anyone who plans on putting together a benefit show for the attacks... vyletz would be honoured to participate in such an event... lemme know ok? take care, xo chelle _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 08:10:29 EDT From: TrishTLC@aol.com Subject: Re: benefits In a message dated 9/13/01 5:32:31 AM Eastern Daylight Time, chelle_shock@hotmail.com writes: > if you plan on doing anything... or know\hear of anyone who plans on putting > together a benefit show for the attacks... vyletz would be honoured to > participate in such an event... lemme know ok? > I'll do it too. Toronto people could either set up a separate event on another date, or try to get involved with helping out with that one. (this one might have an emphasis on higher-profile acts, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to set up a separate event for smaller profile acts, as long as the two events don't compete.) I'll forward the email to anyone who is interested (please email me directly if you are). Hi everyone, Some of you might receive this twice and I"m sorry about that. I hope everyone is coping well through all of this. I'm trying my best that's for sure. The latest I've heard from my cousin was that her two brothers and fiancee went to NYC with a picture of her to all the hospitals, but no such luck. Then, the CEO of her company, Canton-Fitzgerald which took up the 101-105 floors of the N. WTC building, reports that none of his employees working that day have been reported safe. This is over 700 employees missing. He was late for work because it was his son's first day of kindergarten. My reason for this e-mail is to ask you to keep an eye out for these names. I will try to get a picture up of her on my website (If Jessica is willing to put one up) just in case anyone can even see her on TV. My cousin's cousin (on her other side of the family) was on the 104th floor of the same building and there has been no word yet from her. Please contact me at this e-mail or through my webjournal at www.triciaconcepcion.com if you see of hear of these names: Maria Santillan Judy Fernandez Thank you and God Bless, Tricia ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 14:38:03 -0700 (PDT) From: dana wagner Subject: nyc update everyone, i just wanted to give an update on what happened today in nyc. i don't know if anyone else experienced this in any way, but if you are here, i'd encourage not going to work unless you have to (especially if you work in a high rise). please, everyone stay safe. i went to work today, left my apt at 8am, and had to get off the subway at times sq and walk the rest of the way (about 7 blocks). at first i heard there were no trains running below 42nd st, but that only applied to some other trains. so i got into work by 9:15. it was pretty difficult to get any work done today, but we were trying (though mostly just chatting about our experiences and what we'd heard of others). at about 12:30 this afternoon, we heard of bomb threats in times square, grand central station, and penn station. all of those locations were being evacuated. i work in rockefeller center, very close to times square, in a 50 story building. then, a woman i work with came over and calmly told us all that our building was being evacuated too. there was supposedly a fire on the 16th floor, and i am on 17. we proceeded to the emergency exit stairs, but the door was locked! then we headed for the elevators, which were not in use. panicking, we tried to find someone who could open the door to the stairs. then, an announcement came over the PA from the fire safety director that everything was fine, it was a false alarm, and we could return to our desks. YEAH RIGHT. remember world trade tower 2 just two days ago.... they announced this again, but we were too scared, and decided to leave. everyone was leaving. finally the elevators started working and we got down to the lobby. the entire mcgraw hill building was evacuating. we saw several buildings near us on 6th ave were also emptying... possibly because of the bomb threats. we saw firefighters and fire trucks, but i'm not sure if there actually was a fire in our building. but on the walk to the subway, as we passed other buildings with tons of people outside, we saw a security guard from one building with a walkie-talkie, and the voice saying "fire in 1221" (our address is 1221 6th ave). my coworkers and i all exchanged numbers, and i headed into queens to a friend's apartment, with another coworker/friend who lives near me in brooklyn. none of us wanted to be alone, so we just came here. she and i will probably get a cab into park slope later today, but we all wanted to be together, and not have to take subways/cabs through lower manhattan to brooklyn. we are all OK and just reading the paper and watching the news. just please everyone continue to be safe, and try not to go to any high-profile areas (especially in NYC). today was especially scary because the area where i directly work was under threat. i hope it turns out to be false rumors. dana ===== http://www.aquezada.com/dwagner __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help?
