Woohoo! (no pun intended) (Song 2? Get it? Oh never mind) Emm Gryner's new album "Girl Versions" debuted on the Canadian Campus Top 50 chart at #14! CFRC in Kingston has the CD at #7 CKMS in Waterloo clocks in at #3 AND CFMU - McMaster University in Hamilton shows GV at NUMBER ONE!!!!! David Bowie's official website Bowienet.com is helping the cause by featuring a track from Emm's album in the BowieNet Song Gallery. Emm's currently sequestered in a studio in Los Angeles recording tracks for a brand new album (yes, she's back to originals) but she'll emerge for a show here and there. Watch this space. Don't miss Emm's performance on Open Mike with Mike Bullard Monday Oct. 15 xo Joni http://www.emmgryner.com/ - -- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2001 23:05:04 -0400 From: "Robert Tittel" Subject: Re: Melissa Ferrick Jess writes: << Yeah, the song "E-mail" is so freaking awesome. About the music industry and being indie and it just rocks :) I love it and the trumpet is so damn cool. I'm obsessed w/ the trumpet :) >> Damn straight. "Email" is one of my favorite songs on the CD too! I love the trumpet too. I was disappointed that she didn't play "Email" last night, but she did play "Will You be the One?", which also has some horns in it. Unfortunately, no horns at the show, but it was still awesome to hear live. Melissa is so intense live. The crowd really feeds off her. By the way, has anyone seen her live lately? She is sporting a new look... let's just say Sinead O'Connor now has MORE hair than Melissa Ferrick.... Dunn" Subject: OT: Lee's Palace Apologies to the non-Torontonians on this list, but here's some Toronto-specific info: Further to my bitching about Lee's Palace, NOW magazine reports this week that after protracted negotiations, the owners of The Horseshoe have agreed to buy Lee's Palace. They go on to say that renovations to the decrepit venue will begin in September, wherein the washrooms will be rebuilt, a real dressing room will be built for artists, the center bar will be demolished and moved, and the venue will be turned into something more like the Horseshoe itself -- with a bar at the back and a live music room at the front. Should be interesting to see the new Lee's once it's done. Still no word on whether or not they'll start shows on time or keep the volume of the music to a reasonable level, but judging by the Horseshoe's record on the former, I won't be holding my breath. :) - - Julian P.S.
