I don't post on here much but have been on this for a year or so. I may've even met some of y'all at Trish Concepcion's 21sst b-day a couple of summers ago and a few Emm living room shows. Anyway, a groovy band I dig a lot, Over the Rhine, is coming out with a grand new CD Tuesday. They're now on a major label again (Virgin/Backporch), and sound something like old 10,000 Maniacs or Cowboy Junkies. In fact, they've been 'honorary members' of the Cowboy Junkies for the last few years, joining them on stage to augment their live shows (keyboards and vocals). Their new CD is a mix of quiet and loud stuff, some electronic sounds, some acoustic guitar and piano, and Karin's awesome voice. They've been playing them on a lot of shows in the past few months (Third Watch, Felicity, Mysterious Ways). Over the Rhine's leadoff push track from the new CD (Films For Radio) is a song co-written by Dido, called "Give me Strength". The only Dido I have is her debut CD, no imports or anything, but I think the song is unreleased by Dido so far. Karin's vocals are very similar to Dido's on that track. The lead song on the CD is very Tori-reminiscent. And the entirety of the CD is very OtR. Also, on OtR's list, Sarah Harmer has been getting a lot of push there lately too, so that list is a little behind this one on that. Also, Ron Sexsmith and Sixpence None the Richer opened for Over the Rhine at their 2000 Christmas show in Cincinnati; Ron sang a brand new-OtR song with them and it's downloadable as the "song of the month" on their website, www.overtherhine.com; there's also tons of other MP3s on there. That's probably enough promotion for 'em, but I trust you'll like them.
