I MUST say THANK YOU to the cellphone that called me from Nelly Furtado's concert in Ann Arbor Tuesday night (YOU know who you are!!). Wondering where Nelly was playing, I logged onto PollStar.com and decided while I was on, I'd do some searching for concerts in the Cleveland area. What I found turned out to be an AMAZING discovery!!! Sarah Harmer in CLEVELAND (my city!) Wednesday night (last night 3/7)!!!!!! WOW!!!! I was soooooo excited!! So, Rob and I prepared to go to yet ANOTHER concert! :-) We saw Sarah open for Great Big Sea last fall. It was in a fairly large concert venue, with LOTS of noise and not many people paying attention to her. Rob's quote of the night was "I would LOVE to see her perform in a small, smoky venue somewhere, just her and her guitar." Well... he got his wish, except that she performed with a drummer (forgot his name) and bass & cello player, Kevin Fox! Her performance was INCREDIBLE!! When we pulled into this place on the way east-side of Cleveland, I thought it was going to be another Emm in Pittsburgh (VERY VERY small crowd). There weren't many cars around and it was in this small Slovak tavern. But by the time Sarah performed there were close to 75 people in the VERY crowded tavern. She played EVERY song from "You Were Here", plus did two covers (one Neil Young -- which she said she played in Ann Arbor a few weeks ago) and she did about 3-4 Weeping Tile songs. Surprisingly, there were many people in the place that knew of her Weeping Tile stuff (including Rob who listens to the CDs a lot!). Even though I thought she gave a great performance when we saw her last fall, last night's performance in the small, smoky bar was EXCEPTIONAL!! She has an amazing talent for songwriting. And it appears that more and more people are picking up on that. I also thought that she and Kevin complimented each other VERY well! She has incredible energy and seemed to REALLY enjoy performing. She has this "carefree" spirit! It's great to see a performer truly enjoying what they do. If she comes to a city near you, I STRONGLY recommend that you check her out!! Once again... THANK YOU to the cellphone who led me to my incredible discovery! :-) Now Rob and I looking forward to Sarnia which is only 16 days away! ~Stephanie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Mar 2001 10:27:47 EST From: Zelie519@aol.com Subject: NEC: Baltimore/Washington concerts THIS weekend?? If anyone is in the Baltimore/Wahington area and knows of any AWESOME concerts tomorrow or Saturday night, let me know!! I'm visiting a friend there and would HATE to miss out on a good show!! :-) Thanks!! ~Stephanie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 11:20:04 -0500 From: Michael Keast Subject: Sarnia question A quick question for the organizer(s) of the Sarnia show: approximately what time will the show be starting? I'm asking because I'd like to avoid having to get a hotel room if at all possible, and I'm wondering if the show will be over early enough to make it reasonable to return to Toronto afterwards, rather than spending the night in Sarnia (assuming I can get myself to Sarnia in the first place!) ************************************************* Mike Keast (michael.keast@giffels.com) http://www.geocities.com/dtswd/ "i don't care if they eat me alive i've got better things to do than survive" ************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 10:49:26 -0600 (CST) From: Annie Lin Subject: Sarah Harmer I'm really excited about next Wednesday (3/14). I didn't know who Sarah Harmer was until I found out that I was going to be opening for her, and then I started to check out her stuff, and found out she's really, really good. I'm very much looking forward to the show. If any of y'all are in Houston or Texas, she's playing at the Sidecar Pub on 3/14, show starts at 9pm. Sarah Harmer ROCKS my world. Steph pretty much said it all, but she was absolutely stellar. I think Sarah may rank up there as one of my top two or three favorite songwriters. And Steph is right, she has an enthusiasm for her music that is contagious. Several people stumbled into the bar behind us saying, "who is that playing?" [Cleveland is a little behind the times, musically.... and they call us the "rock n' roll hall of fame... yeah right]... anyways, i digress... but at the end of the night i was SURE she had made MANY new fans... i saw at least 10-20 people walking out with brand new copies of "You Were Here". This was also probably the first time I'd ever been in a venue this small where the artist actually played an encore. The crowd was going crazy. When she came back out, I was at a loss as to what she would actually play because it seemed like she had played everything there was to play. But she managed to come up with three more songs before exiting for good around 12:15am. She was absolutely stellar, and I did not think she could get much better than the first time I saw her. This was the small intimate setting I had been dying to see her perform in. Here is a rough run down of what she played: * EVERY song from "You Were Here" * Oleander (second time I've heard her play this) * Mercy Bin (new song -- AMAZING!) * Sail Away (Neil Young cover) * 3 Weeping Tile songs: - In The Road - Good Fortune - Old Perfume * Another song that she called "a cowboy song, kind of like Old Perfume, only new" * I think one other cover and one more new song... (sorry, I can't remember titles!) all in all she played about 20-22 songs; she played for almost 2 hours! can't wait to see her again! Next concert: 16 days to Sarnia, is it?
