It was a very nice, intimate show. About as intimate as you could get without literally being in someone's living room. I was very sad that there wasn't a greater turnout. these two amazing artists deserved more than the 25 or so people that turned out... What's with you Pittsburgh folk anyway? I thought that town had some culture! Don't all those college kidz downtown ever pop into concert venues to see a couple of relative unknowns perform for the dirt cheap price of 5 bucks? i myself drove (after work) from Cleveland to be in the presence of the wonderful ms. gryner and her delightful opening act, meg toohey. i must say appearance wise, meg was not what i expected. she was younger looking than i thought and kind of had a little bit of a skater look about her. let's just say the voice did not match the appearance, because she has the voice of an angel and plays a kick ass guitar. i was impressed at some of the complex chords she was playing. she definitely rocked. if i had ANY cash on me, i would have bought both her CD's there on the spot. emm was amazing as usual, although too short. i long for the day when she plays a nice hour and a half to two hour set. this was my fourth time seeing her and never has she played longer than 45 minutes to an hour. but she was still worth the drive. i felt HORRIBLE about leaving after Emm. we stuck around for two songs by the local band, The Fuzzy Comets, who were pretty decent from what I heard of them, but by 10:30 on a Tuesday night, all of 6 people were left in the club. i had a two hour drive ahead of me to Cleveland and Steph was working the next day, so we had to go... i admire any artist(s) who put it all on the line and get up there and rock out with all their hearts and souls on display, but it must be pretty disheartening when you look out into the crowd and see that the "crowd" is less than 10 people (and that's probably counting employees)... it was pretty clear than everyone who was there was there for Emm and Meghan. i still felt bad leaving. it was nice to meet Dana, even though we only talked for about 30 seconds. but it was nice to put a face with the name. thanks for coming up and introducing yourself!!! looking forward to seeing everyone in Sarnia. geez, i like markeee's idea about name tags. there's gonna be some faces i know there (trish, attilla, dana, chelle, rannie, and i assume julian and roberto? who else?), but also lots of new faces who i know only by name from the "list". this is gonna be sooo kewl! rock on, y'all... see ya in Sarnia... Emm is scheduled to go on at 10:30, Meghan at 11:30. Melissa ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 2001 23:35:21 EST From: Zelie519@aol.com Subject: Emm in Pittsburgh!! Well... I'm SURE Rob has already posted about going to see in the 'burgh last. But I am going to add my own thoughts... After getting lost... I read the directions wrong, somehow Rob and I ended up at Rosebud with plenty of time before Meghan went on. I have to tell this story since I told Rob I was going to post about it... I must say... it pays to be a girl! As I was washing my hands in the restroom, I looked over and who should be washing her hands next to me... Emm! She looked at me and said, "Wow! It's been awhile since I've seen you! How are you?" I'm still amazed that she manages to recognize people even if she only sees them once a year... I told her that Rob and I drove two hours from Cleveland just to see her and she was really impressed that we drove that far. Then she said, "Well, I hope I make it worth it for you!" WOW! She's so humble about herself... and she's very sincere whenever she talks to people at her show. I'm totally amazed at that! Well... Emm did NOT disappoint last night! Her a capella version of "This Mad" was INCREDIBLE! She sang it much slower than the normal version and I think every person in that small (VERY SMALL) audience hung on every word. I know that I did! And she sang my favorite -- "89 Days". I have always loved that song... it was my second song by Emm that I ever heard (Acid from the Lilith Fair 1997 Sampler was the first). She also sang the "bass version" of Disco Lights which we heard last fall in London, Ontario. I LOVE that version! :-) I'm sorry that Rob and I never got a chance to talk to her after the show. I wanted to tell her that it was worth the two hour drive! Oh, and Meghan Toohey was really good too!! Everything you've heard is TRUE!! The venue was large... but the crowd was quite small... probably 20 people, and that included the workers at Rosebud. However, it didn't take away from Emm or Meghan's performance. Their close friends and fans were there and they were great... just as if there was a packed house! After the concert, we headed home, after getting lost again leaving the city... for those of you who have been to Pittsburgh, you would understand!! TONS of signs for locations WITHIN the city but NO INTERSTATE signs until you are just about to get on the interstate!! Anyway... the night was a wonderful concert adventure, as usual, with Rob!! AND... I got a FREE Amy Correia "Carnival Love" CD out of it!! The radio DJ asked if anyone heard of her. Rob and I said yes and she gave Rob the CD to give to someone who didn't have it. He gave it to me! He's such a sweetie, isn't he??? Oh... forgot to mention... it was good to finally meet the "infamous" Dana and put a face to the name! That's all from me... can't wait until Sarnia!! :-) ~Stephanie ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V4 #43 **********************************
