Toshack Highway- "Toshack Highway" >> my friend Pete in Rhode Island RAVES about this album. he says it is his second favorite album of the year, right behind Kid A. before i saw it on this Top 5 International Albums list, he is the only one i had ever heard mention them. apparently they are a side project of Swervedriver's Adam Franklin and some other guys from another cool band. Anyone hear anything by them? was thinking about picking this up, but was hoping for some other opinions out there... <<4. Yo La Tengo- "And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-out" 5. Sigur Ros- "Agoetis Byrjum">> Yay for Yo La Tengo! i agree, this is a great, great CD. And i guess i should probably check out Sigur Ros, seeing as Markeee and several other people on this list are raving about them... that and Coldplay... oh the music i need to go and purchase! damn, and i'm poor after this Christmas... Rob NP: "Straight to Hell", Emm's version, from my 18 song compilation disc which is my first successful burned disc since i got my CD-R drive installed!!! that balances off 9 "coasters" that i created from unsuccessful burns... guess i finally figured out the problem... I bought the Toshack Highway album shortly after it came out...I'm a HUGE Swervedriver fan (their Mezcal Head album is one of my top 5 favourites of all time), so when I found out it was an Adam Franklin side project I snapped it up right away. To be honest I haven't listened to it in a while, but from what I remember it's sort of a quirky pop record, much less guitar-oriented than Swervedriver, more of an electronic/keyboard-driven feel to it. It wasn't one of my favourites of the year or anything, but it's certainly an enjoyable listen...I'd say it's well worth buying, although I'd recommend getting all of Swervedriver's albums first! :) ************************************************* Mike Keast (michael.keast@giffels.com) http://www.geocities.com/dtswd/ "i don't care if they eat me alive i've got better things to do than survive" ************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2001 16:12:20 EST From: Piggio@aol.com Subject: Re: OAC: Toshack Highway (was RE: OAC: umbrella music!) He's been trying to get me to buy all their CD's too. Other than Mezcal Head and 99th Dream, what's out there? They have two other albums: Raise, which was their full-length debut, and Ejector Seat Reservation, which came between Mezcal Head and 99th Dream. And of course they have a bunch of singles out there as well. MH is definitely my favourite of the four albums, but they're all fantastic records, I highly recommend them to anyone and everyone. Speaking of fantastic records, I'd just like to mention that I think everyone should run out and buy the new Teenage Fanclub album...I bought it just before Christmas, and it immediately went to the upper reaches of my "Albums of the Year" list. Simply a breathtaking album, especially "Near You", which is the feel-good song of the year, if not the decade. ************************************************* Mike Keast (michael.keast@giffels.com) http://www.geocities.com/dtswd/ "i don't care if they eat me alive i've got better things to do than survive" ************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Jan 2001 03:01:34 From: "roberto w" Subject: Re: Paddy Casey (was Re: stuff) hi emily! >> but thats not necessarily bad. i saw paddy open for chantal >>kreviazuk >>in chicago this May and he was awesomeawesomeawesome. >MY TEACHER was at that same show!!
