There's an interesting little article and picture of Emm! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Jan 2001 10:52:02 -0800 (PST) From: dana wagner Subject: best of 2000 well, i should have known better than to post my top picks of 2000 before 2000 had ended. rest assured, the album list does not change much - miss toohey sits firmly at the top as my favorite albums, favorite performer, favorite discovery of 2000. "eight so low" being just a fraction above "romantic blunder #4" but sometimes they switch. i'd also like to add deb talan's "something burning" to the list because it's just a fabulous, fabulous album that everyone should listen to. hauntingly beautiful vocals anyhoo, now i'd like to include my top CONCERT/MUSICAL EVENTS of 2000 list. (in order by date from beginning of the year, not by BEST, except #1 which i reveal at the end) - -2/19/00 - emm at my house in philly! what a night! surprising me with knowing that "july" was my favorite (at the time), playing "hook machine" on my guitar, half sorry, the first time i heard PARTING SONG... sigh. not to mention getting TONS of my friends into emm - -3/28/00 - emm at u.penn's writers house - a show i set up; lots of my friends there; shannon came!; emm debuts lots of new songs and "dead relatives" material; still to this day the best i've heard "case of tornados" was at that show, and it was the first time she played it for an audience; same with "mary jill" - -4/1/00 - FEZZFEST 2000! emm, holly palmer sinner, kr, lauren, erica, leigh, rob, markeee, rowbear, chickenpops, and the 12 naked apostles - -4/20/00 - tara maclean @ the point, bryn mawr PA besides a FABULOUS concert in a cozy, intimate venue, susan, denise, and i did tequila shots w/ tara until i got very drunk. big fumbler gathering there including heather, heidi, shannon, somer, & tony. - -8/5/00 - c'est what benefit for women in transition (thanks, tab and james!) - could there possibly be a BETTER lineup in one night than chelle, andrea florian, erin smith, sarah slean, emm gryner, and feist??? i think not! - -8/6/00 - tara maclean @ ted's wrecking yard, toronto (hi kristen!) - the entire show was tara taking requests from the audience; definitely among the best concerts i've EVER been to. - -9/28/00 - meg toohey and holly palmer @ the bottom line, NYC my discovery of meg who knocked me off my feet and i still have not come up (oh yeah, holly p was fab that night too) - -10/1/00 - emm at metro cafe, DC; debut of santa monica, playing siamese star, pour some sugar... god, what a concert - -10/6/00 - meg toohey @ the living room, NYC - meg's friends were in the back teasing and making comments throughout, which ordinarily would have been annoying if anyone else, but it was hilarious, and she was hilarious on stage - -10/11/00 - radiohead @ roseland, NYC - markeee and i camped out roseland in the freezing cold for TOO many hours, but well worth it to see radiohead for the first time and to be in the front row! again among the best concerts i've ever seen - -10/22/00 - dead daisy records halloween bash; what a THRILLER night! - -11/18/00 - folk rock festival in somerville, MA with meg toohey, erin mckeown, kris delmhorst, grey eye glances, and mica richards; third row center; best meg toohey concert i've seen yet, and erin mckeown is also one not to be missed! 12/28/00 - meg toohey @ lizard lounge, cambridge MA even though meg had a cold and her voice wasn't as strong as usual, the concert was unbelievable; she had lots of special guests playing w/ her, i got to hear her do "test drive" for the first time, she did some amazing covers, including pretenders' brass in pocket, 'til tuesday's voices carry, & prince's kiss. plus, she's just such a cut up on stage, it's impossible not to love her - -12/31/00 (this is why i'm glad i didn't post before the end of the year) sarah harmer @ the bottom line; just sarah & her acoustic guitar - beautiful, beautiful, beautiful; she played "dogs & thunder" and FINALLY played "every time" at my request! did a new song; mixed up the setlist from her usual stuff. FABULOUS concert, well worth $40 and....finally my top pick of the year... not a *concert* but the best musical event i've EVER seen: - -12/2/00 -"miss folk america" rock opera, somerville, MA (a satire on beauty pageants with boston folk musicians competing for the title of miss folk america) starring faith soloway, jennifer kimball, catie curtis, mary gauther, kris delmhorst, & MEG TOOHEY; the absolute craziest, most hilarious show i've seen; included special guests jess klein, ellis paul, dar williams, andy richter, and lori mckenna ok, so i saw emm A LOT this year. quite a year considering there was no lilith to fill my summer. happy new year & here's to some great concerts in 2001! ===== http://www.aquezada.com/dwagner "you're the one that took me for the ride; all i wanted was a test drive." - meg toohey Yahoo!
