"why do you analyze it all?" -- Cicero, "The Wind and The Rain" ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 02:12:47 -0800 From: Bob Subject: Emm in Vancouver at Richard's Hi folks, I had a lovely time at the Emm w/Ron show tonight at Richard's on Richards. Especially since I got to hang out with the marvellous Joni Daniels at the Emm cd and tshirt table. I also talked with show opener Ana Egge and heard the details on that Saskatoon car crash. (Ana has some whiplash symptoms, which will hopefully heal up soon.) The club was well-filled for the early show. A dj dance thing was scheduled later, so the Ron show was supposed to wind up around 10pm. Because of the compressed time slot, Emm just played 6 songs, but she wowed the crowd nonetheless. And they were very attentive! 1. new song, on guitar (Northern Traveller?) 2. Julia, on piano 3. new song, on piano (written in Halifax) 4. Pour Some Sugar On Me, on piano 5. Disco Lights, on bass 6. A Case of Tornadoes, on guitar? After her set there was a nice crowd of people getting tshirts and cds. Ron went on and did a fine solo acoustic set. The first Emm song blew me away. She has such an amazing voice. I asked her the title afterwards, but forgot to write it down. I was a bit apprehensive to hear the Def Leppard cover, but it was really funny. Emm cracked up laughing a couple of times at the ridiculous lyrics. And yet musically she made it into her own song, as on Crazy Train. And in that red dress the "sticky sweet from my head to my feet" line came across as ~hot~! I think she does deserve that Sexiest Pop Singer thing at Chart. ;) Tomorrow I'll take a few buses and the Skytrain to the living room show. I scanned the Emm article in the Georgia Straight and you can see it below. (I asked her where the five pigtails were and she said 'Did you read the Georgia Straight? That was all about you.' [see paragraph 2] ;) Her hair looked great tonight -- go vote!! http://www.ChartAttack.com/yearendpoll/ oops, voting is over -- results in December. I saw it yesterday with a group of about 6 people...half of us (myself included) thought it was brilliant, and the other half absolutely hated it, so I'm just curious to know what other people think. I second that...RFAD is one of my two favourite films of the year so far (along with Unbreakable). You've heard of a film being called the "feel-good movie of the year"? Well, RFAD is the feel-BAD movie of the year...not an easy film to watch at times, but brilliant nonetheless. - -- Mike http://www.geocities.com/dtswd - ----------------------------------------------- FREE! I went to see Martina Sorbara at the Rivoli earlier this week for her CD release party. You must check out THE CURE FOR BAD DEEDS if you can.. unfortunately it is only 8 tracks, but it is a wonderful cd.... I also wanna plug DANNY MICHEL... i just saw him two nights in a row at C'est What and he definitely BLEW Y MIND yet again... If you are in Toronto you can catch him again at the Rivoli on December 9th, but get there early cause I am sure it is gonna be a PACKED show. (he sold out at c'est what? both nights and there were extremely long lines outside of c'est what? On one last note I picked up the new atb album.. which has a cool a$$ version of the wild strawberries song (wrong to let you go) called let U go. I also picked up the new delerium with bonus disc.. haven't listened to it yet, I am still grovving to atb.
