Monday: get to nyc at around 5:30pm and start camping on the street for Roseland tickets with Dana... absolutely no sleep... very cold... hard sidewalk... take breaks in Virgin Megastore and Dana's office... Tuesday: get tickets around 9/10-ish am.... Total waiting time: 17 hours... wander the streets for 7 hours... set down my stuff at Roseland at 5pm... wait for an hour until Jess Klein show... go back to waiting a few hours later... wait overnight again to be in front row... much warmer... ground actually carpeted... sleep for at least 6 hours... Wednesday: wait in line all day till doors open at 6:30pm... in a city as big as NYC, amazingly waited with same people that I waited with to see Emm/Bowie at Letterman/Conan... play Radiohead hangman... total waiting time: about 24 hours... worth it? yeah. Seeing "National Anthem", "Idioteque", and "Talk Show Host" from front row with Dana, Erica, and her friend was amazing... Thom MIGHT have smiled at my blinky-bear mask... go home afterwords. Thursday: Home. Friday: Get back to NYC by 11am... Line up outside NBC building to try for SNL stand-by tickets... Number 2 in line... No sleeping bags or chairs allowed until night... have to stand all afternoon... joined by same waiting people as earlier... eventually barricades brought out and can finally sit/lie-down in tiny space between street and barricade... Loads of people ask what we're doing... make a big sign asking people not to ask us... go to drug store to get supplies to make bear masks for other 6 people... waste several hours playing Radiohead hangman and making masks... don't have to spend money on food since people always offering to buy stuff for each other... say hi to Tim Meadows, Scott Thompson, Dandy Warhols, and Chris Kattan/Jimmy Fallon... those last 2 guys were at Roseland show (along with Beastie Mike D and Matt Damon)... try to sleep but interrupted by street cleaning crew... told to pack up stuff and move across street... move across street and finally move back in an hour... but wet street, so head into NBC lobby to sit around... ignored by Kate Hudson... get to see Mr. Bojangles and Rocky Balboa from the "Dog Show" sketch... finally go back to dry sidewalk... a couple who work for Capital records walk by and promise to give the band a bear mask with our signatures on it... and maybe bring some of the band back to see us (doesn't happen)... sleep for a couple hours... Saturday: finally time for giving-out-of-the-tickets... waiting time: 22 hours... get ticket and eat breakfast... goto Virgin Megastore and hold up bear mask for d.j. to see... dj stops what he's saying to announce that there are Radiohead fans in the house... gonna play "Optimistic" but we scream out "Idioteque"... he plays it... go back to NBC and sprawl out in the lobby to wait for band to arrive... wait for 6 hours, but never see them... we do, however, talk to almost every cast member and Darrell Hammond's baby sings her ABC's for us... eat dinner then line up to get into show... lady anounces that there are no more seats... go home... get home in time to watch'em on SNL... mu __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? It's already playing in "select cities", but I don't know if it'll ever open nationwide... I'll probably have to wait till it comes to my local art-house theater... mu __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Messenger - Talk while you surf!
