It certainly is a shame that you're over the chick and guitar thing. You will be missing out on some really amazing music. I assume then, that you were not partial to the Lilith Fair Phenomenon because there were many a strumming chick with guitar in tow at that event. What exactly is it about a woman who plays guitar that you find boring and no longer entertaining... and how does it differ from men who have been playing guitars for years?.. How come that "thing" isn't over? Im not A hardcore feminist trying to bash you or anything like that.. I just feel a little hurt (being a female singer who plays guitar myself) that you would rather pass up a listen to my music simply because your over a phenomenon that reached it's peak in the scene over two years ago. Just because I play guitar and sing does not mean that I'm trying to sound like Jewel(an artist at the forefront of the Lilith scene). I'd like to think I'm creating something new and original and I don't think it should be looked down upon that Guitar just so happens to be the instrument that I can play. Emm Gryner plays guitar and sings..Ani Difranco..Leslie Feist... the list goes on.. yet they are all original and sound about the furthest thing from the likes of Jewel. I don't know if your a fan of Jewel or not..but I feel the statement you made refers to the Jewel wannabes that popped up during that time when that type of music reached it's zenith. We gals who play guitar are not all necessarily influenced by Jewel...some of us were influenced by Leonard Cohen, the Gypsy Kings and even trip hop music. With those influences we are bound to create something that strays from the typical "Chick and Guitar genre" you're referring to. I think I understand what you were trying to say when you stated that that you "thought the chick and guitar thing is over"...I wasn't too impressed by Jessica Riddle's music myself.. however.. it's not because she plays guitar.. it's because I wasn't moved by her lyrics and her voice didn't stand out as unique or distinct. Anyways.. I'd like to make my statement known to all: "Im proud to be a chick who plays guitar... but even more so..I'm FUCKING proud to be an artist that creats music" This is just my opinion and I don't' mean to force it on anybody or cause any sort of heated argument. I respect what people have to say but if I feel the need to respond I shall do so because it is my right and I only hope that people will also respect what I have to say in turn. thanks for reading; Lindi _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
