I did a few weeks back listen to parts of the Grandaddy cd, not to bad. Today i am revisiting SPKLANNG! by The Supers. I bought the cd this past summer, because I liked Starling and Danny Michel so much. The Supers, for those of you that don't know, is Maury Lafoy's band. He is Starling's Bass player and I know he has done work with various others in the Toronto scene, like Sarah Slean. Anyway, listening to this cd, it is ALOT better than I remember it when I first bought it. Although I am sure I must have bought it on one of my shopping sprees, and it didn't get the airplay it deserved in my car, because i was too infatuated with other musical pleasures. It's wonderful to pick up a cd that you never listened to much, to discover that you really love it now. The same thing happened to me when I revisited Fiona Apple's Tidal cd, earlier this year. If you want more info on the Supers check out http://www.thesupers.com And just a reminder... Inscestuous Band Night at the Horseshoe this coming Saturday Starling, Danny Michel and The Supers. It should be awesome!!!!!! cheers Rannie http://www.RannieTuringan.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Oct 2000 11:13:39 -0400 From: Rannie Turingan Subject: chelle in BrownScene Blast There was a write up in this week's issue of BrownScene Blast about the Third SceneStealers Night... This exerpt about chelle is as follows... "Chelle mixed it up on the acoustic guitar. Having opened for Emm Gryner and Tara McLean, she is used to playing to packed shows. Probably the most traveled performer of the night, Chelle did some storytelling, performing the original song, "Jersey", which was written during her trip to the Garden State for an exclusive show. " cool stuff grrl!!!! you rock my world.. Good luck in London, opening for Tara yet again!!!! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Oct 2000 15:59:30 GMT From: "the wicked witch of the west" Subject: Re: EC: Pour Some Sugar On Me... id like to propose a toast to everyone coming out of hiding! *ding!* xo kr (laura said) KR I'm back out of hiding!! ;) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I assume that this is what emm will be recording backup vocals for: - ---------------------- A recent splurge of Bowienet journal entries has revealed some interesting details on Bowie's progress with his album of remade "sixties" compositions. Just to run down the confirmed information from the horse's mouth: The album currently has a working title of TOY. Work is expected to be completed on the album by the first week of November. (Ed: street release will be quite a bit later than that) Bowie will be designing the cover art for the album. "Very odd" are the words he uses to describe it. There will be a couple of new songs on the album, written in the style Bowie "may have written them in, in the sixties". Expect more XX chromosones for the album with the addition of Lisa Germano, multi-talented instrumentalist and singer on the 4AD label. According to the journal reports Germano plays recorder, violin, mandolin and accordion on the tracks. - --------------------------- mu __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I posted last week about going to "Montreal" this weekend. I've had a lot on my mind lately and something possessed me to say Montreal when, in fact, I'm going to Quebec City! I knew all along we were going to QC, but like I said...I'm just a poohead :) So yeah. My Japanese friend Kentaro is coming with me and some others to Emm's Halloween bash in Ayer later this month, and he told me that I should dress up in my horseback riding clothes. So, I'd be going as an equestrienne. I wasn't sure what I thought of that at first but I decided that I'll use that as my last resort. And Jenn...no copying! :) What are y'all coming as?? I wasn't going to dress up at first, but I don't want to die! haha. Ok, well have a nice weekend everyone. Nicky :) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 06 Oct 2000 00:35:17 GMT From: "Lindi Rockstar" Subject: Re: NEC: Halloween costume ideas Headliners from da hood! I don't remember too much of the show other than Emm, because I was super psyched for the show. From what I recall, Nelly had a good voice and she was the best of the opening acts for Emm. Looking forward to the BT/Hooverphonic show in Detroit next week. woohoo Anybody else going?
