From: owner-headline-girl-digest@smoe.org (headline-girl-digest) To: headline-girl-digest@smoe.org Subject: headline-girl-digest V3 #260 Reply-To: headline-girl@smoe.org Sender: owner-headline-girl-digest@smoe.org Errors-To: owner-headline-girl-digest@smoe.org Precedence: bulk headline-girl-digest Saturday, September 30 2000 Volume 03 : Number 260 Today's Subjects: ----------------- idaho [DChan1701@aol.com] oac: holly palmer and the "nightbirds" [dana wagner Subject: oac: holly palmer and the "nightbirds" i've been having probs with yahoo for the past day and half, so i hope this goes through. last night i went to the bottom line where i got to see not one but *two* holly palmer shows. they do a show at 7:30 and again at 10:30 each night there. anyway, holly was part of a four female lineup in a series they do there once a month called "nightbirds." each band got to play for 30-35 min. holly was of course fabulous and funny as usual. she didn't go on until almost 1am for the second show and i stuck around cause i knew she would just be great. both sets were breathtaking. played "small room" - first time i'd heard that one live and it was totally rockin'. and she had a drummer with her, in addition to robin and cuong. there were three other acts - the hippy nuts (a kinda countryish band... they were ok), meghan toohey, and cameron deezen. cameron played piano and had a cellist but the poor guy's cello bow strings just fell off at the end of the first song! i felt so bad for him - he tried to pluck his way through the rest of the set but he was obviously very upset. and he didn't come back for the second set. her songs were really beautiful - she did a cover of the beatles' "across the universe" that was just fabulous. i must, however, rave about my big discovery of the night - meghan toohey. she's from boston (graduate of berklee school) so boston people PLEASE check her out if you haven't already. she can't be any older than 21 i think, and she is FREAKING INCREDIBLY AMAZING. i couldn't believe how good this girl is - from the first note of her first song i was just transfixed. she kinda reminded me of tegan & sara, but maybe it was more in the look. here's a list of her upcoming gigs because i want everybody who has a chance to go see her. oct 6- the living room, nyc oct 7 - the bitter end, nyc oct 15 - middle east upstairs, cambridge MA oct 29 - iron horse music hall, northampton w/ ANTIGONE RISING! nov 18 - somerville theatre, MA FOLK ROCK FESTIVAL wednesdays in december - residency at lizard lounge in cambridge go see her! check out her website: www.meghantoohey.com if you are anywhere remotely near nyc next weekend, you better come out and see her w/ me. this girl totally rocks. and she has TWO albums coming out end of november... a live acoustic one and a studio electric record. mmmmm. can't wait. very eventful night last night. dana ===== http://www.aquezada.com/dwagner __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
