It teaches you a lot about *design*. Jess wrote: >i would recommend taking a class if you can... sometimes they are like a day >long and you'll learn SO much. I'm very weary of learning anything through courses like this because usually the intructors *really* don't know what they're talking about. They probably will teach you how to use frontpage or something. Julian recommended HotWired's Webmonkey, which is an excellent resource. If you want to learn HTML, I'd recommend that you get the _HTML Pocket Reference_ (O'Reilly and Associates). It doesn't -teach- you HTML, but once you get started (see Webmonkey :), it's incredibly useful. I can't stand those 3000-page, sixty-dollar "the ultimate bible definitive gudie to teaching yourself everything you every wanted to know about web design in 12 hours." When you're surfing and you come across a page that has a design feature you like, have a look at the source code and see how they did it...I basically taught myself HTML programming by doing this. ************************************************* Mike Keast (michael.keast@giffels.com) http://www.geocities.com/dtswd/ "thank god i've got 3 minutes to tell you what i did today" ************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Sep 2000 09:27:45 -0400 From: Joni Daniels Subject: tour dates! I'm sure you all know that David Bowie and Iman had a baby girl, Alexandria Zahra Jones, on August 15. In honour of this auspicious occasion, Ziggy and the band are taking some time off and that means Emm Gryner gets to take her head out of the stars and get down to some serious work on her own music! We put together a CD of songs that Emm found under her bed, previously unreleased material that was often requested in concert, and called it "Dead Relatives". It's due in stores on Tuesday September 5. I was wondering if any one else on the list had a Cue Cat. It's a bar code reader that is about the size of a mouse and hooks up between your keyboard and computer. You can scan bar codes off of magazines, newspapers, cds, books, soda cans, price tags, tools, boxes of cereal, videos, even a pack of gum and it will take you to their web site if its set up. Magazines and newspapers are starting to add these at the bottom so you can link directly to a site about the product or story. I thought it was kinda of cool and picked one up. You'd be surprised what you can scan and find a web site for..hehehhe..any ways they are free at RadioShack. Check out their web site at http://www.radioshack.com/CAT/Gateway/1,3654,,00.html or ww.crq.com. thought I'd pass along another toy :) ~Attila ......The word is I'm crazy, could of told you that before, but if you've got the guts to join me leave your sandals at the door..... ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
