I surprised everyone at the benefit(well, only the ones who knew me, hehe) by coming with the strikingly beautiful Dawn D, aka "DD". I was glad I got to see lots of unseen faces but i was not glad that it only lasted a few hours, but I was watching the awesome sets of all the girls the whole time. that's a first for me. i usually see who i came to see and mingle the rest of the time, but i sat way up at the front(on the floor!) and listened to every song of chelle's, andrea's, erin's, emm's, sarah's, and feist's. Needless to say, i was soooooo tired at the end of the night. But, I had to get home ASAP to study for an exam, which i took yesterday and I PASSED!!! Ha, that's all I have to say about that. So, yeah, it was nice seeing all of you again. Hopefully I will see you in Toronto August 26, at the NOW Lounge, where I will be playing a benefit for Brown Scene Magazine(w/Chelle!). xoxo Trish ps Coyote Ugly was good and so is Dead Relatives! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Aug 2000 07:50:52 -0700 (PDT) From: dana wagner Subject: DR night... a few things. rob is here, staying with me. hilary is getting into town tonight. if anyone else wants to come into the city and hang out tonight, drop me a line and we'll plan something. two. as for tomorrow, how does it suit people to meet at about 5:00 at 49th & 6th ave? that's where i work, so if nobody is doing anything before that, maybe it'd be a good place to converge. midtown. lots to do. and we can all go over to the (dark star) lounge together. there are a lot of cows around my building, so if you haven't seen them, it's definitely a sight. [similar to the toronto moose, hehe] anyone know how early we can get to dark star? like when doors open? hmm... maybe i'll call. three. not related to DR night, but we saw leona naess last night and she FREAKIN ROCKED. ohmygod, what amazingness this woman is. she played a beautiful new song probably called "mama" or "mama, don't let me go." whoa. we were right up front, leaning on the stage. when we got there, after doors opened, there were like 6 people there. but after the opening act it filled up quite nicely, maybe 200 people or so. uh, some guy who worked there saw rob's emm shirt and said emm was the first person to play at bowery ballroom. maybe on the bernard butler tour? can anyone confirm? ===== dana wagner -> http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~dwagner | university of pennsylvania, class of 2000 "there was no other living thing/ who meant the sum of everything" -eg __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The chorus insists: "Would the Real Slim Shady please SHUT UP!" Is it just me or does that sound a lot like censorship?? Eminem may refer to N'Sync as N'Stynk and Britney Spears as "garbage", but I don't believe he has ever gone as far as to deny their constitutional right to freedom of expression. The faux-Christina Aguilera song is symptomatic of a larger societal ill- the desire to silence or suppress what is misunderstood by a certain demographic. To me, that is more offensive than the combined vulgarity of Eminem, Slim Shady AND Marshall Mathers. On a lighter note, it was great to see everyone at the C'est What Benefit on Saturday! What an awesome night of music and support. Tony Gryner, Question #1: Who is this "demographic" that is misunderstanding Eminem? The way *I* understand it, he was offended by some legitimate criticisms Christina had of him and decided to rebuke by telling the world she's a slut and making up lies about her personal life. Am I part of this "demographic" you speak of? Tony Gryner, Question #2: What right was DENIED of Eminem by this song? Not only was it put in the form of a question, but the parodizer used the word "please." If after hearing the question "Will the real Slim Shady please shut up?" he did decide to shut up, it would be completely by his own volition. Or he has the option of simply saying "no, I don't think I will shut up." I don't see any right of his being taken away. I'm sorry you find this parody so offensive Tony. I'm also sorry that you find Eminem's violent, slanderess, misogynistic approach to life so UNoffensive.
