ANYWAY, the biggest discovery of the night for me was the opening act, karen novy. has anyone heard of her? the reason i'm also sending this to headline-girl is that she sounded just like emm. JUST LIKE EMM! ohmygod, the similarity is just uncanny. needless to say, i loved her. talked to her afterward and asked if she knew of emm (cause i thought maybe she was an influence...) but she said no - but she did write her name down and said she'd check her out. i bought karen's cd, but it doesn't sound as much like emm as her live, but it's still very good. :) it's from '96 though, so maybe she has a new cd coming out. she's a really sweet person too. anyhoo... big recommendation from me for karen novy. wow. she was awesome. only 2 songs, but they were great. i signed up for her mailing list, so hopefully she'll play some more shows in nyc soon. talked to tara and she gave me a big hug, and we got to chat for all of a minute because of the crowd. no tequila shots this time. haha. but she was lovely and i told her i might see her in toronto next weekend. :) anyone going to that? what time is the show? ok, must go watch tara on conan now. dana - -- dana wagner --> http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~dwagner university of pennsylvania, class of 2000 * "you're forgettable like 1993" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Jul 2000 01:55:05 -0400 From: "Andrea" Subject: Re: shut up it aint over! i was abducted too, but by god...i claim unfair distractions... Tegan and Sara Quin are twins from Calgary Alberta (Canada), but I think they're looking for a new place somewhere else (TO maybe?) They're 19 years old and I think they turn twenty in September or something... They've been playing for quite a while...they released a debut album last year called Under Feet Like Ours. I just got This Business or Art, and 6 songs are revamped UFLO tunes...anyway, I like the first album better...it's more raw. They started off kickin' around Calgary...they won some Battle of the Bands thing there when they were about 17. That got them some recognition and I guess it just snowballed from there. I first saw the duo opening for Mae Moore in October '99, back when they were still called Sara and Tegan :) I had no clue who they were, but I knew the promoter of the gig and he convinced me that I would LOVE them. And he was so right :) They kick serious ass. They actually just won a YTV achievement award for best band, but that's no big deal, YTV's crap :) ...but hey, they DID get to sing with Aaron Carter...:p Info enough for ya? :) i think they are Ani influenced...but definitely a very cool, fresh sound. Try to get their fist album if you can, it's so much better! Oh yeah, and speaking of Ani influenced, if you like that kinda stuff, you MUST check out Martina Sorbara ( www.martinasorbara.com ) she's from TO and...well...she's so awesome it's hard to describe. Just buy her album Unplaceables and I promise you won't be sorry :) ...oh yeah, except one thing...she doesn't enounciate hardly at all, but apart from that she's killer :) Whew, you sure got *me* started :) love Shawna ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ shawna@fumblers.com AIM: Fumblefly fumbler\passenger\canmuser\headliner\resident mm/syl groupie **dancing around the handbasket**wink** - --------------------------------------------------------- "...no plan is the best plan of all..." -j.n. - --------------------------------------------------------- *Are you a Michaela Foster Marsh fan?
