I just had to comment on this one - I bought this one after getting Dot Allison's disc... One Dove was her previous band effort. Although I am partial to Dot's solo release, I think I like the One Dove disc better. Very listenable. Headliners, someone was alluding to a rift between Sarah Slean and Emm Gryner. Could this have anything to do with the rumours of Emm and that guy from Starling, Danny Michel? Because Sarah dates a boy in Starling as well, yes? Perhaps there was a (drum roll here) tug of war. I emailed Dead Daisy Records not long ago, to see if Emm would be playing a Living Room Concert in Toronto (cause I'm up that way later this summer) and someone wrote back saying that probably the 2nd week of August, but there hasn't been a post about it on the site. What's up w ith that?? They also said it would possibly be the END OF THE LIVING ROOM SHOWS! Yikes. Is it because everyone is doing them now? I hope she doesn't stop them because I like the casual idea of playing in someone's house.....which brings me back to the bedroom idea. someone who knows more about these topics PLEASE RESPOND! love to all the glorious headline folk F.G.F.T.S. I doubt it's because everyone's doing them now, because a whole lot of people were doing them before Emm. Maybe she's going to be doing something different...touring w/ someone else, recording, who knows... Because a few months back when sxsw was going on, Radiosonic was broadcasting live stuff from there. T&S played, with Hawskley backing them up. In any case, EVERYONE LISTEN! I taped that show and it was killer. >Also, on the same show at 9:45, Sarah Harmer's performance is being aired, >so >folks who are fans of her might want to tune in for that. Yeah...now it's sounding like the same show. I taped Sarah's set as well (ah, the wonderful stuff I steal from CBC :)) and it's beautiful. Hurray for something useful that our tax dollars go to! "anchorless" is a pretty good record. i saw at least 10 copies of it in a used store last weekend, though. dana - -- dana wagner --> http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~dwagner university of pennsylvania, class of 2000 * "you're forgettable like 1993" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Jul 2000 13:18:34 PDT From: "Tab Siddiqui" Subject: Re: One Dove Rob wrote: >5) $1.99 -- An obscure little CD by a band called One Dove; I can't > >describe their sound really, but its kinda sexy... my old roommate >Pete >found this in a bargain bin a year or two ago and I remember >listening to >it in his car and liking what i heard. One Dove is actually the old band of singer Dot Allison, who has a beautiful new record out on Arista called "Afterglow". Personally, I'd never heard of them before, but apparently they were an underground hit in the U.K./Europe and in the club scene. The One Dove stuff sounds a little dated now, with a lot of cheesy synth and stuff, but at the same time, that whole electro-beats-with-female-vox thing they were doing was before their time. I highly recommend "Afterglow" - it's hypnotic and woozy and very aptly named. ;-) - - Tab :) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Jul 2000 20:53:22 EDT From: Starfall18@aol.com Subject: Re: Extra Tegan and Sara cd I want tegan and sara!!! anyone got one left ? :) emily ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V3 #191 ***********************************
