I just got back from the trio's concert in Cleveland and it was AWESOME!!! I have loved Vertical Horizon from the first time I heard "Everything You Want" on an episode of Felicity and I went out and bought their CD the next day. I also bought Splender's CD awhile ago and really liked them too! So, I've been anticipating this concert for awhile! If you get the chance... check them out! Or at least buy their CDs... they're quite different from our usual Emm, Tara, Sarah and the like. I was even saying this to Rob as we were driving home... how do I go from seeing Tara at Stardust in Toronto last weekend to seeing Third Eye Blind rocking on the stage??? :-) Anyway... that's my two cents... ~Stephanie ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 00:56:23 -0400 From: Detroit Rock City Fumbler Subject: Re: NEC: Vertical Horizon/Splender/Third Eye Blind Stephanie wrote: > how do I go from seeing Tara at > Stardust in Toronto last weekend to seeing Third Eye Blind rocking > on the stage??? :-) b/c your one wild and crazy gal :) ~Attila w/ I should be in bed already...lol....naw..I won't share what else I was going to say...lol........... ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Wow. What a weekend. This will likely be very very long and detailed, so delete it now if you want. Now where should I start... Friday. Around 1pm, Rannie, chelle, Lindi and Kristy show up on my doorstep. It was awesome to see Rannie and chelle again, and absolutely amazing to finally meet Lindi and Kristy. We called Michaela Foster Marsh and she came over, said hello, then whisked Rannie off for a three hour photo shoot/tour of Ottawa. Meanwhile, Lindi and Kristy jammed out on the grass while me and chelle began this insane process of learning parts of each others’ tunes. Fiddles, guitars, tapes, all strewn about everywhere :) I was determined for us to do a cover of Easily Amused’s “Sliding Doors” (title discovered later) and chelle quickly learned some harmonies. Chelle wanted me to sing backup on a couple of her songs so I not-so-quickly learned (a bit of) harmonies…heh… Once we got frustrated enough, we joined the other girls outside to talk about tree-planting and whatnot and watch chelle and Kristy run around in the rain. When Rannie finally came back, we ate dinner and headed over to Rasputin’s, where two of my friends were performing that nite. But not before stopping downtown and introducing you Torontonians to Mrs. Tiggywinkles. Huge crowd. Whoa. At that point JESS GINTING showed up with a very gorgeous haircut (that Rannie seemed to really like *grin*) so she could at least spend some time with us before leaving for Indonesia. It was a fucking awesome show and chelle bought my friend’s CD, which we played in the car on our way to Pizza Hut at midnight. Yum…crappy food for discount prices… After getting home somewhere between 1 and 2 am, we woke up fairly early the next day and headed out. We had to make the most of these three short days in Ottawa. We checked out Rideau Street, with its nice used CD stores…(Rannie bought Lenni Jabour and heh…Lindy) We also went to the market and saw these two buskers named Pete and Andrea. We caught the tail-end of their show, which consisted of cute little catchy tunes in a one-man-band style. Very impressive. We must have spent a few hours downtown because we went back home at around 5pm and we were all ready for bed. Instead, me and chelle did some more last-minute jamming. We got to Rasputin’s around 6pm, did a soundcheck, ate yummy Rasputin’s food and waited for the crowds to roll in (which they didn’t till the last minute) Although not as full as the nite before, we had a good number of people. Anyway, our crowd included Michaela Foster Marsh, not to mention Andy and Rob, so we rocked. My set was weird, what with the fiddle tune (NEVER again, ok!) and guitar shuffling. But Rannie was happy to hear Sliding Doors, and I listened to the tape of the show…and chelle, your harmonies sound great! :) Lindi went on next and holy fuck is she amazing. She wouldn’t sing for me all weekend so I FINALLY got to hear her. Blew me and everyone away. And I think a couple of my guy friends have big crushes on her :) Lindi covered One by U2, which was funny because the last song chelle did was a cover of With or Without You (that I learned two hours before the show)…totally unplanned. And CHELLE! Definitely some rocking out happening. Because I am incompetant, Rannie sang the harmonies for Ecstasy. Yeah! The Turets! Very cool. I did do the harmonies for Wash Away though, which was super fun…chelle, you kick ass. Chelle even sold a copy of her CD to Michaela, who ended up giving chelle a free copy of her CD! Woohoo! It was a blast. After staying a little too long we moved our party to the typical fumblers hangout…Denny’s. Kristy and Lindi went home to sleep, but Rannie, chelle, Rob, Andy and her friends Dana and Lara, and myself stayed at Denny’s till about 2:30am being generally loud and singing showtunes :) It was absolutely hilarious. We dragged ourselves out of bed Sunday and met the same Denny’s bunch, plus Marnie, in the Market. Being the little tourists they were, Rannie and chelle ate Beavertails…although they wouldn’t shut up about something called funnel cake…what’s that again? :D Oddly enough, we ended up seeing Pete and Andrea again, this time catching an entire set. For their last song, their lucky page-turner, was none other than our very own…Rannie (well, more like Randy :)) which I’m sure was the highlight of his trip. Rob bought their CD so you can ask him to listen to what they sound like. After eating a nice lunch at Coffee Revolution, we hacked in the market for a while. Then it was time for Rannie to make a decision: to see or not to see Emm. Yeah…you’re all thinking “as if that’s a question!” It must have taken at least half an hour of us standing there pestering Rannie before we finally got the answer we wanted. We were off to see Emm :) We met Emm right at the gates of Fresh Fest. I’m really digging the green highlights! She was an absolute doll as always and tried to get us in for free but couldn’t :) We paid our twenty bucks and began to explore the (IMHO) lame festival, full of very bored looking teenagers. I had been to Bluesfest the week before and thought it was quite funny that what was the Gospel tent, had now turned into the Electronic music tent…heh.. I insisted on seeing Richard Wood, who I love. I understand he’s not everyone’s cup of tea (thanks for dancing with me Marnie!!) but I live for that kind of music. So what if I was practically the only person dancing and his guitarist did that lame attempt at being “fresh” by singing those old 60s tunes. I love Richard Wood! And come on, he’s so loveable! I saw my favourite NewRO cameraman (and in my opinion the BEST choice for a Much VJ) Elia. Didn’t get a chance to talk to him though…I was too into Richard. Then I headed over to the fresh stage where everyone was hacking to the lively tunes of Ottawa band Cheza. I met two headliners from Detroit, I believe…good to meet you! Sorry I can’t remember your names! Kristy passed out copies of Idaho and Edgar and we crowded around the front of the stage to sing, dance and join in with Emm’s set. She must have thought we were hilarious :) As Rannie mentioned, she let us sing the chorus of Summerlong, which was so cute. New band. Very good. Yes, A Case of Tornados blew everyone away. I got Emm’s pick at the end of her set and gave it to chelle. I ended up seeing Tammy RayBould of all people, when waiting in line to talk to Emm. She was quite excited to give me one of her very glossy promo postcards that she just happens to carry around with her… uh…thanks Tammy…(maybe you want it, Julian?) We talked a bit with Emm, saw a bit of Big Wreck, then left. Sorry, chelle, we didn’t see Matt Good, but I keep hearing he wasn’t all he was cracked up to be. Goodbyes were sadly said, and the magical weekend was over. But hey, any of you guys can come back whenever you want! - -Rannie (aka Randy): I hope you’re glad you stayed…I knew you would be. Hope you’re having FUN taking pics of DANNY :p YOU don’t have a picture of him TOUCHING you, now do you? - -chelle: You rock my dear. What else can I say? Thanks for letting me sing with you, the honour was all mine. Send me a copy of your set if you can. - -Lindi: I’m so glad I finally got to hear you. You MUST send me your CD. Good to hear all the latest gossip about TO artists…you’ll get that guy from Big Wreck someday :) - -Kristy: YOU ARE AWESOME. Don’t *even* talk to me :D - -Rob: Cool meeting you again! Thanks for the ride and the hacky tips! - -Andy: Hope all goes well at Chart. Great seeing you again, I’m so glad you made it down here in the end! Have a happy birthday on the 5th :) - -Marnie: You Ottawa chick you…thanks for driving me home. And I know those two little girls were freakin thrilled to talk to the one and only Emm. - -Jess :D: Hun, you have no idea how much I wish you could have stayed all weekend, but it was awesome to see you at least on Friday. Hope Indonesia is a blast. So whether it was meeting all of you crazy amazing people, or just chilling in Rannie’s car listening to not-yet-released CDs, or trying to direct people around my city when I don’t even know where I’m going, I had SO much fun. You folks MUST come back soon. Folk Festival is aug 25-27 and has a KILLER lineup. http://www.ottawafolk.org Oh man, I hope I haven’t forgot anything…you guys can always fill in the blank spots :) Thanks for one of my favourite weekends ever, love Shawna ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 19:46:09 EDT From: Songbird22@aol.com Subject: NEC: Extra Tegan and Sara cd Hey guys, I've got an extra Tegan and Sara album for sale.
