For those of you who haven't managed to catch the video for Emm's "Julia" on any of your friendly neighbourhood Backstreet-and-Britney-playing video channels, well, it's featured this week on MuchMusic's "VideoFACT Vault" section of their website. There's some other great artists that didn't get a lot of airplay for their respective videos on Much in the 'vault' - Wild Strawberries, Ivana Santilli, Moxy Fruvous, even a clip of a Zoebliss video! For those of you who don't know, VideoFACT is a grant given to Canadian indie artists to help finance their videos. It's a good idea and a vital support to a lot of artists that would never get a video made otherwise. Now only if they'd actually *play* some of these videos once in awhile, hmm... ;-) http://www.muchmusic.com/videofactvault/ - - Tab :) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2000 00:37:47 -0400 (EDT) From: dwagner@sas.upenn.edu (Dana Wagner) Subject: Re: OT/NEC: tegan & sara! DDR: Evergreen Music - No Garden Keeping Required I haven't heard any of the other artists signed to DDR, but I know Emm's music...and no matter what mood/season I'm in, the songs are always there. Nothing needs to be added, or taken away...and that's the beauty of Emm's songs. And like the Daisy, one of the most common yet beautiful flowers around(even if it's dead and dried up;), DDR presents music and artistry in it's purest form... Just trying to explain my choice... The official address is Front St., it has 'frontage' on both streets, entrance to the music venue part is via Church St. See ya there! Maddie's 10 second re-view of Fresh Fest starring Emm gryner ok. first of all, I got to the site and I thought, whoah...this festival is reeking of something. No one around for miles. Even the Electronic Tent was withery. But it wasn't long before 6:30 came around and Emm was onstage doing a soundcheck and all her cool fans (including me and my friend Lise, an Emm virgin as far as concerts go) were hanging around in front. There are some serious screamers in the Emm fan bunch. Headline Girl subscribers maybe?? I will have to introduce myself to you next time so I can scream along in stereo. lol. Anyway, nice to see a colorful bunch because everyone else seemed to be so sporty and man-like, maybe because of the other bands on the main stage, being a yank I hadn't heard of them...but anyway, I'm straying off topic. I think the set was... JULY 89 days of ALCATRAZ a new song, Yellow...dead relatives perhaps??? southern Dreamer SUMMER LONG HALF SORRY (much better live than downloaded!!) HELLO AQUARIUS by request STEREOCHROME a song I wasn't quite sure....here...a cover of something I think... and Case OF Tornados, which I thought was the BEST OF THE SET. The finale of this was incredible, so emotive...maybe cause this song is fresh (pardon the pun) off the songwriting block, and she still feels some angst for whoever this one's about It did rain halfway through the set, but everyone just came closer to the stage which I thought was very sneaky of the weather and Emm to work out. anyone else with any thoughts or anything?? in conclusion, a fun day had by me and Lise (we'll be back)...Emm was signing autographs later so I got her to sign Public. She is a sweetie not to mention she FUCKING ROCKS!!! hurray! Hey Maddie and everyone! I just subbbbed to Headline Girl after meeting some list folks at fresh fest. I knew I would do it someday, but I had been living vicariously through other mailing lists with many of the same folks on it (FTE, TOfumblers, ITW...) I met two of you before Emm's set, but unfortunately I don't remember your names, only that you were from Detroit and were talking to Rannie :) I'm from Ottawa and this past weekend was quite exciting indeed, what with fumblers invading for the weekend. Emm was the perfect end to an awesome three days. Yeah, the festival had a pretty sad turnout, not to mention a pretty boring crowd. But twenty bucks for Emm and Richard Wood (a rockin' PEI fiddler) was worth it :) For now, a big hello to all the listmembers I know and to those I have yet to meet. She's been here numerous times since then - Tulip fest (only caught 15 minutes since I was on a volunteer shift), with Ron Sexsmith...I saw her with Bernard Butler in Toronto and I thought it was more of a co-headline than a support gig! Each put on great sets though. > whoah...this festival is reeking of something. No one around for miles. Yeah, the numbers weren't as high as expected. It was marketed as an enviro-conscious musical gathering with a rather pleasantly diverse lineup. Swell idea, but the weather sucked. Nevertheless, it was a lot of fun- great people, real friendly atmosphere and The Roots were awesome. Just the fact that they showed up in Ottawa was good enough for me. As for the Electronica Tent, I thought it was a good idea, but perhaps they should've only had it on at night cos that's the only time the club kids started coming. Ah well- I hope they hold the festival again next year. >Case OF Tornados, which I thought was the BEST OF THE SET Add me to the list of people who agree with this!! It kicked some major ass. Just a question though to the folks who were there: what was on the promo CD that was being handed out? I had to go back to do some volunteer stuff after "Summerlong" and didn't get to return until the last song but I saw all of these lucky folks with CDs! I asked one fellow in the autograph tent where he got his and he informed me that they were being handed out during the set. Waahh - I didn't get one! :( Anyway, she was real nice in the autograph tent. Everyone looked like they were having a really great time onstage. I'd have to say that Emm and her band put on one of the best shows at the festival (along with The Roots, but I'm biased). The "Fresh Stage" had its highest attendance when she was on and it didn't seem like the rain (it was literally pissing down) stopped anyone from enjoying themselves. To all of those going to the upcoming Living Room shows - I'm jealous!! Y'all be in for a treat, but you probably already knew that. Later, - --Cathy. ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V3 #187 ***********************************
