Hey, folks... Okay, so there's been rumblings about this show going around for awhile now... Sorry it took so long to get the info out, but we wanted to wait until all the details were finalized. James and I helped Emm put together last year's highly successful Kosovo benefit at C'est What, and we had such a good time that we decided to do it again this year for a different cause. We've had a wonderful response from some of the city's best singer-songwriters, and we're just thrilled to be hosting this show. :-) All the info is below, but please note the following: - - Show starts at 9 pm SHARP. And I'm not talking about the usual Toronto Standard Gig Time, either. ;-) - - There will be no recording of any kind allowed - no taping, no cameras with the exception of the in-house crew and/or pre-arranged media coverage. - - The show is 19+ only. C'est What doesn't usually tend to check I.D. at the door, but in this case, please be prepared to show proper photo I.D. at the door. - - We anticipate a big draw for this show, so show up on time if you want to get in! Doors open at 8 pm sharp, and there will be no entry before that. Doors will remain open until the club hits capacity. - - Cover is $10 at the door, with all proceeds going to Women in Transition Toronto. If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me at this address. Hope to see some of you at the show! :-) - - Tab :) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 17, 2000 RANT MODE ON PRODUCTIONS Presents A BENEFIT FOR WOMEN IN TRANSITION August 5th – C’est What, 67 Front St. East - 9:00 p.m. sharp Featuring Emm Gryner, Danny Michel, Feist, Sarah Slean, Simon Wilcox, Erin Smith, and Andrea Florian Rant Mode On Productions is pleased to present a benefit for Women in Transition Saturday, August 5th at Toronto’s venerable C’est What club, featuring a stellar lineup of the city’s best singer-songwriters. This show is born out of a highly successful benefit for the Red Cross’ Kosovo Relief Fund last July at C’est What headlined by local singer-songwriter Emm Gryner and organized by the team behind Rant Mode On Productions. The success of that show, which drew an overflow crowd, was featured on CityTV, and raised funds and awareness for the cause, prompted organizers to mount this year’s benefit with an eye to hosting a benefit concert annually. This year’s show will benefit local women’s group Women in Transition. WiT operates two emergency shelters for women and their children fleeing domestic violence in their homes. The shelters offer 24-hour crisis response, counselling and support services as well as follow-up assistance with services such as Legal Aid. The Bloor House has a capacity of 26, while the Spadina House has a capacity of 23. The organization is supported by the United Way of Greater Toronto. The benefit welcomes home headliner Emm Gryner, who has been touring the globe as a member of rock icon David Bowie’s band. Gryner has also been busy readying her latest solo effort, 'Dead Relatives', a CD of B-sides and demos. Joining Gryner will be a host of celebrated singer-songwriters, including Ottawa troubadour Danny Michel (also of Starling), who’s been hailed as “a fine candidate for national treasurehood” by Toronto Star pop critic Ben Rayner. Rounding out the slate are piano songstress Sarah Slean, former By Divine Right guitarist Leslie Feist, current buzz artist Simon Wilcox, and longtime stalwarts of the local indie scene, Erin Smith and Andrea Florian. Due to the large number of artists scheduled to perform, the show will start at 9 p.m. sharp, with doors at 8 p.m. Capacity at C’est What is limited, so patrons are urged to arrive early to guarantee admittance. Cover is $10 at the door, with all proceeds to Women in Transition. Admittance is 19+ only. All recording devices are prohibited and can be checked at the entrance if necessary. Media wishing to cover the event should contact Rant Mode On Productions. Rant Mode On Productions is a new partnership founded by writers Tabassum Siddiqui and James McGarry. We are very proud to present this grassroots event and are thrilled by the support shown by the local singer-songwriter community for this benefit. It promises to be a very special night of music for a very important cause. For further information and media inquiries, please contact Tabassum Siddiqui at (416) 291-7685 or tabsid@hotmail.com.
