LOL you want misery? i'll show you misery!!! how bout, i'm a bitter old hag b/c i just fucked up my first year of university and basically no longer am a cool MIT student at the wonderful institution of UWO and my dad just found out he has a big tumour in his intestines (he goes in for tests this week). i'm also a broke ass and my mother hates me b/c i'm such a failure and disgrace to the family (asian parents, i can do nothing but dissapoint). a minor detail, but to top it all off, my plans for a fun weekend in ottawa with some of my favourite people, and my first 'real' journalistic assignment to follow fresh fest with camera and pen is now up in the air b/c my ride may have to cancel. i'm also sometimes envious of all those annoying lovey dovey couples who are so in love. you know what i mean? especially when i'm in a bad mood, geeze, you don't have to rub it in everyone elses face! so yeah, i'm real pathetic and senstive, and now y'all (i know of at least a few people) probably think less of me b/c i'm a bad student or b/c you really didn't care to hear about me. but one thing i've learnt in the past couple of weeks? i don't care. it doesn't matter what other people think, but i thought i should share my little bumps in the road with everyone, b/c my friends say i don't tell people how i feel enough. so there. i love you all, bye! ~andrea http://home.istar.ca/~andyc/me "believe me, every man has his secret sorrows, which the world knows not; and oftentimes we call a man cold when he is only sad." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 01:04:08 -0700 From: Paul Schreiber Subject: [NEC] sfmusician's local artist spotlight Attention Bay Area headliners: here's a chance to support local artists, mingle with other musicians and help a good cause, all at the same time. sfmusician presents * local artist spotlight * a benefit for the albany high school music department Saturday, July 15 Great American Music Hall 859 O'Farrell Street San Francisco, California The event - --------- o With co-sponsor Craigslist, sfmusician.com will be holding our first "local artist spotlight" on Saturday, July 15. o Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door. Tix are available at Bass, Ticketmaster, Tickets.com and the Great American Music Hall Box Office. You can buy them on sfmusician.com. o Doors open at 8 P.M., show starts at 9 P.M. o This is an all-ages event. o All the details are at: http://www.sfmusician.com/spotlight.php The bands - --------- o Kicking off the evening will be Viv. They are fun, they are real and they write great pop songs that you can sing along to without feeling guilty in themorning. ViV puts together great harmonies, great lyrics and a strong line-up to create an original sound that few bands are capable of. o The Fingers are one of the most eclectic and original bands to come out of the Bay Area in quite some time. Combining wonderful songwriting, warm soulful harmonies and featuring the cello as one of the main instruments, The Fingers continue to pick up steam throughout Northern California. The headliner - ------------- o Vivendo de Pćo means living on bread -- food for these starved times. Drawing inspiration from the shanty towns and tin-roofed villages of Brazil, Vivendo de Pćo distills the ability of the human spirit to overcome adversity and celebrate life in all its richness and beauty. Vivendo de Pćo consists of six members from all over the Americas -- Brazil, New Jersey, Berkeley and San Francisco. A three-person percussion section locks the groove; a jazz influenced acoustic bass swings the bottom end; a funkified guitar punctuates the songs with colorful chords and a saxophone intertwines with the melodious vocal lines. shad 96c / 3B CS / mac activist / eda / fumbler fan of / jewel / sophie b. / sarah slean / steve poltz / emm gryner / / x-files / buffy / dawson's creek / habs / bills / 49ers / t h i n k d i f f e r e n t. i chained my angel to the eavestrough / it was november and i think i pissed him off / - -- Sarah Slean, "Angel" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 09:44:49 EDT From: Songbird22@aol.com Subject: Re: put your money where your ears are (OAC: Tara MacLean Concert MP3s on CD) mr pookieboo writes: > and last but not least, the Beth Waters band are having their big CD > release party at the Last Day Saloon in San Francisco on July 19th... So now that we're officially halfway through 2000, I'm curious to know what everyone else's favourite records are. My list looks like this... Note: the #1 spot is empty because I'm reserving it for DR :) 1. 2. Nina Gordon - Tonight and the Rest of My Life 3. Sarah Harmer - You Were Here 4. The Drowners - Is There Something On Your Mind? 5. The Smashing Pumpkins - Machina/The Machines of God 6. Starling - Sustainer 7. Leona Naess - Comatised 8. The Appleseed Cast - Mare Vitalis 9. Juliana Hatfield - Beautiful Creature 10. Iron Maiden - Brave New World (hey, a guy's gotta have some guilty pleasures...) I'm almost positive I've forgotten a few, but anyway... I also want to mention the Stereophonics "Performance and Cocktails", but I'm not sure when it was released so I don't know if it qualifies. In any case, it's a brilliant record... ************************************************************ Mike Keast (michael.keast@giffels.com) http://www.geocities.com/dtswd/ "I think I've earned the right to stay in bed all day" ************************************************************ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 17:53:00 EDT From: AuroraSparkle@aol.com Subject: Re: NEC: albums of the year so far In a message dated 7/10/00 5:22:19 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Michael.Keast@giffels.com writes: << So now that we're officially halfway through 2000, I'm curious to know what everyone else's favourite records are. >> i hadn't realized until now that none of the albums i bought this year were actually released this year. music this year is boring me.... - --Rachael ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 18:20:38 -0400 From: "temporary scars" Subject: Re: albums of the year so far Okay.. Unsolicited charity is a strange monkey. paul, justin and a few others has made a soberingly valid point here ...while this generous gesture is certainly well-intentioned, steve, there are i believe some quite serious legal, not to mention business, ramifications involved here, in your offering to tara the nominal fee that's being asked for in the public distribution of his unofficial bootleg recordings (even if such a project's done selflessly from the heart of a loyal, appreciative fan). steve, have you (or anyone here) checked in with tara herself about how she feels regarding this (that would be one of the first thing i would recommend doing before even announcing such a project!)?? i don't want to pre-assume anything, maybe tara and nettwerk/capitol will actually not have a problem with it, but regardless, they should probably have been made aware of this from the beginning, and their blessing given before starting this off...imho... :) anyway, didn't want to come off as a party-pooper, but just wanted to mention the above as i don't really want to see my fellow dedicated and well-meaning fans get into any sort of trouble over this...some alternatives to consider may be to donate the expense-covering fee being asked for to an appropiate charity, or simply not go further with this, but to express your support for tara by going to her shows, buying her cds, etc. :) on a lighter note, just wanted to mention a couple of cool shows in the near future from Lilith artists Holly Palmer, Emm Gryner and Lisa Sanders...if you are in the nyc area, please feel welcome to stop by The Cutting Room, 19 West 24 St on Sat July 15th (9pm), and Brownies (8pm) on Wed Jul 19th to hear Holly perform with her trio... and on the other coast, check out Lisa Sanders, Mary Dolan and band at Java Joe's, 1956 Bacon St, Ocean Beach on Sat July 22nd (8:30 pm), as well as Lisa solo at Twiggs, 4590 Park Blvd, San Diego the night before...opening for them will be the angelic a capella vocals of The Copper Wimmin (from the SF Bay Area)...and who knows, you may even get to hear a Steve Poltz-Mary Dolan newly co-authored tune... :) back to the east coast, we also have the indomitable Emm Gryner showcasing her new album Dead Relatives at The Lounge, 158 W. 72nd St (between Broadway and Columbus), NYC on Wed Aug 9th (9pm), plus a living room concert the next night at the domicile of one of our very own, Nicky (KNicky3116@aol.com), somewhere out on Rhode Island... :) and last but not least, the Beth Waters band are having their big CD release party at the Last Day Saloon in San Francisco on July 19th... you may even see just little moi at these shows, helping out... :) *fumblecheers!* ~edward :) er, sorry, no cute or clever signatures to be found here. so there :-P ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2000 23:53:54 EDT From: Starfall18@aol.com Subject: napster Has anyone else noticed that not many good songs are popping up lately? i have been trying for days to get more sarah harmer, or emm, or whatever, and like one choice will come up? am i just crazy? em ------------------------------ End of headline-girl-digest V3 #180 ***********************************
